The list of things us FTMs (First Time Moms) “need” is quite overwhelming. And knowing what you’ll REALLY use before the baby comes? Forget about it. I read as many blogs and talked to as many moms as possible. Fact is, everyone does things differently, and every kid is different. But there are a few things that are indiscriminately on everyone’s list, even if the styles change. Crib, stroller, diapers, clothes, BABY MONITOR. All basically mandatory.
But what kind of baby monitor should you get? There is a lot to consider. The newest thing that our prior generations didn’t have the luxury of is a video baby monitor. Audio monitors are great, but a sound can mean a lot of things and leave moms running to and from our Little Minions (sometimes panicked and covered in suds and shampoo because we had FINALLY dared to hop into a quick shower) when it’s not necessary.
Enter: Video baby monitors.
Motorola MBP33S Wireless Digital Video Baby Monitor Review
I was lucky enough to receive a Motorola MBP33S Wireless Digital Video Baby Monitor to review and share my thoughts with you all. I was provided with the MBP33S Digital Video Baby Monitor, but there is no monetary compensation and the thoughts and opinions are completely my own.
A First Time Mom’s Review of Motorola’s MBP33S Wireless Digital Video Baby Monitor
First of all, I won’t lie, video monitors are somewhat pricey. You can get an audio-only monitor for about $20-30. Video puts you over $100 and as high as over $300. The MBP33S Digital Video Baby Monitor runs on the more moderately priced end, (especially for it’s capabilities) at about $130-175.
The benefits of the Motorola MBP33S Wireless Digital Video Baby Monitor: Actually SEE your baby, and even communicate back! Ultimately, the major benefits are less stress and saving time. And those two things, as a new mom, are truly priceless.
Let’s take a look.
First of all, I unpacked the product and was happily surprised at how easy it was to set up. Here is everything that was in the box.
— On your left is the camera, which simply plugs into the wall. The cord is plenty long too! (BIG bonus sometimes!)
— On the right is the monitor (upside-down), which you plug in only to charge.
— In the center is the instructions
— The battery cover (white)
— The actual battery for the monitor (green)
You simply put the green battery into the monitor (the little black/red cord plug into it, super simple)
And screw the cover on. (I used the file on a pair of nail clippers!)
Then plug them both in and DONE! The MBP33S Digital Video Baby Monitor works immediately. No waiting, no long set up. Which is good, because what new mom has the time for that?!??!
You can use it while it charges, just keep the monitor plugged in. Honestly, most of the time I’m using the Motorola MBP33S Wireless Digital Video Baby Monitor, I’m either in the shower, or working at the computer. In both cases, I can just plug it in. It easily has an 8-hour battery life though if you’re running around the house.
As far as features, this MBP33S Digital Video Baby Monitor offers some MAJOR benefits. These were my favorites:
This picture does NOT do it justice. Keep in mind, it’s a picture OF a picture, AND, the swing was moving at the time. Just trust me. The picture quality is excellent.
– Zoom: It has a 2x zoom feature you can activate from the monitor. Sometimes I need a quick closer look at my Little Minion’s face, to see exactly which expression he’s making. One button push and I can tell a grimace from a smirk
– Night Vision: To be 100 percent honest, I don’t use the monitor at night (yet!), because he sleeps in a bassinet next to our bed. But I tried it a few times to test it out and it was both impressive, and really awesomely sci-fi to look at and play with. I am POSITIVE this will be hugely beneficial for me in the future.
– Two-Way Audio: That’s right. You can talk to the Little Minion by holding down one of the buttons on the monitor. Great for a quick comfort“shhhh”, and when he’s older, a thousand other things!
– Temperature Gauge: A great surprise! I would worry about the Minion being too hot or cold while he sleeps and this takes out all the guesswork!
– Option To Add Cameras On: Haven’t yet, but I can see this being extremely useful in years to come. Keep eyes on that Minion all over the room!
My overall thoughts:
If you’re going to buy a video monitor, I HIGHLY suggest this MBP33S Digital Video Baby Monitor. It’s backed by the Motorola name, which I love, is on the moderate side price-wise and has a lot of great features I really enjoyed. And you can’t really beat the simplicity and ease of use.
I love the fact that it’s something I’ll use for years. (FAR too many baby contraptions are complexly useless just a few months in!!) As the Minion gets older, and maybe plays on his own once in a while, it’ll be amazing to be able to actually WATCH him from a whole different room. Honestly, do I NEED a video monitor? Probably not. But as a new mom, time is incredibly precious to me, as is any sign of relief I can breathe. With this monitor that’s exactly what I get. So even with a somewhat costly price-tag, it’s hard to put a price on peace-of-mind.
