Information for this post on Follow The Frog Week was supplied by the Rainforest Alliance.
Follow the Frog Week celebrates the Rainforest Alliance effort to conserve and make choosing a healthier planet easier for us all. Following the Frog is all about taking the shopping that you already do and choosing the “frog” (the frog seal is a symbol of Rainforest Alliance Certification). This week-long campaign encourages individuals and businesses to celebrate sustainability by taking even one small step toward a greener lifestyle.
Follow The Frog
Whether it’s your wake-me-up cup of coffee or tea, a sweet chocolate treat, a beautiful bouquet of flowers or a ream of printing paper, your choice matters. Supporting a healthier future for people and the planet can be as simple as looking for the Rainforest Alliance’s little green frog on everyday items.
3 Simple Ways Make a Difference This Follow the Frog Week (and every week):
1. Watch and Share
Learn why your choices matter — watch the Rainforest Alliance “Hidden Consequences” video then share it with your family and friends! Be sure to use the hashtag #FollowtheFrog.
Follow @RnfrstAlliance on Twitter and like the Rainforest Alliance on Facebook to keep in touch and get the latest environmental news and tips for a greener life.
Why you should care: Just because you don’t see the consequences of your actions, doesn’t mean there aren’t any. In fact, we’re losing forests at a rate of 32 million acres per year — that’s equivalent to one football field every 78 seconds. Helping to protect forests and support communities worldwide can be as simple as looking for the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal.”
2. Join in the Fun
The Rainforest Alliance, and companies working with them, will be hosting events, competitions and promotions in celebration of Follow the Frog Week. Check out our listing of events at rainforest-alliance.org and get involved!
3. Make a Pledge
Make a pledge to be a savvy consumer! When shopping for everyday items – such as coffee tea, chocolate, flowers, paper and wood products — look for
the Rainforest Alliance Certified green frog seal to ensure you are buying sustainable products. And when planning your next vacation, visit SustainableTrip.org to find hotels and tour operators in Latin America and the Caribbean that are operated in a sustainable way.
Agricultural expansion is responsible for 70 percent of global deforestation, and is the single greatest threat to tropical forests. The Rainforest Alliance’s little green frog is your assurance that goods and services were produced according to strict environmental, social and economic standards that curb deforestation, protect wildlife and improve conditions for workers, families and communities.
Small changes made by many people lead to collective big changes. I was personally able to visit a Rainforest Alliance certified flower farm in March 2013 and I got to see first hand what a difference it makes to the land and the people.
