Learning Resources is a website that has tons of educational toys and learning resources for kids. They also have lots of great sorting tools that make it easy to find just what you want whether you prefer to shop age, subject, or learning category. Learning Resources provided me with the Dive into Shapes Sea and Build Geometry Set to review. I knew that this way a toy that my 6 year old and 8 year old would learn from and they love building so I hoped this would be a hit.
I was provided with a Dive into Shapes! A “Sea” and Build Geometry Set in order to facilitate the review. It is also sometimes called the Learning Resources® Geometric Shapes Building Set.
Review of Learning Resources Dive Into Shapes! A Sea and Build Geometry Set For Kids
The Dive into Shapes! A “Sea” and Build Geometry Set includes 60 sticks in 3 sizes, 20 curves, 34 connectors, and 15 double-sided Activity Cards (30 activities) and is intended for ages 6+. My kids were excited to get a new building toy and went to work.
They played for several days building to their hearts content and just learning as they played how to build. They also learned or reviewed their knowledge of shapes as they built them and I checked to see if they knew the names. Not only are they learning building and geometry, but also this will help prepare them for organic chemistry someday- being able to visualize how compounds are connected. If you are looking for geometry toys, you are sure to love this set.
Next, I took out the activity cards which they had completely ignored and gave them “challenges” to build. We watch Survivor together on TV so they love the idea of competing in challenges. I think the activity cards are great. There are 2D shape cards and 3D shape cards where they show how to build a shape and challenge the child to go further, like building a bigger one. There are also attribute cards where they discuss the definitions of shapes- i.e. “Quadrilaterals are closed shapes with 4 sides.” There are equal shares cards that introduce the idea of splitting shapes and the idea of fractions. And there are combining shapes cards where they discuss what two shapes can make- i.e. cube+ triangle= house.
I think this Dive into Shapes! A “Sea” and Build Kids Geometry Set is great. I would give it 5 out of 5 stars. I love seeing what my kids have built and looking at their proud faces. It starts great discussions and is a really good educational toy and learning tool. You can learn more about this geometry set and see the full selection of educational toys at learningresources.com
