We do a lot of cooking and baking around here, which often means running back and forth between a phone screen or laptop for reference and wherever the work is being done. Whether it’s for a new recipe we’re trying or for looking at a picture or logo that we’re putting on a cake, looking at a small screen on a phone is not the best way to do it. After doing this for a couple of years, we decided that it would be a great idea to get an articulating wall mount and a tablet for use in the kitchen. We have had a mini tablet for a couple of years, mainly for the kids and decided that what we REALLY needed was something to fill the gap between the 7” tablet and the full laptop. After looking around, we decided that a convertible tablet would really fit the bill. We were provided with a Nextbook 10 Windows Tablet in order to facilitate review. The Efun Nextbook 10.1″ 2-in-1 Tablet, available at Target, comes in a tablet with a 10 inch screen that has a removable pogo keyboard- just what we wanted!
Nextbook 10″ 2-in-1 Tablet Review
The Nextbook 10 Windows Tablet has 32GB of onboard storage, along with a microSD slot that supports up to another 32GB. The Quad Core Intel Atom processor along with 1GB of RAM gives plenty of power for word processing, surfing the web, watching videos or playing games. Built in wireless and Bluetooth give easy connections to other devices and a micro HDMI port let you view the tablet on a full size TV if you want. It’s got front and rear facing cameras for video chats. Both are rather low resolution though, so selfies or other photos aren’t going to be the quality of a dedicated camera. The feature that really sets the Nextbook apart from a pure tablet or most convertibles is the two USB ports on the keyboard, which means that you can use a mouse, external hard drive or the whole run of USB peripherals.
The Nextbook has a really solid feel to it, if I had to use one word to describe it, I would use “dense”. I’m sure it will break if roughly treated but it should hold up to normal wear and tear with no issues. The back is covered with a nice, grippy matte black material although it does show smudges pretty clearly. The keys on the keyboard engage nicely and register all your presses. It’s a small keyboard, so if you have large hands or bigger fingers you’re going to have a little trouble, but there really isn’t anything anyone can do about that.
Having a convertible tablet is one of those things that you think about for a while, and then wonder why you waited so long – the versatility is amazing. We use it most in the kitchen, displaying pictures that we are using as inspiration for a cake or cookies. It also gets used when making a new recipe and coupled with a flexible arm wall mount; it stays out of the way and can be used in either orientation. When we aren’t using it in the kitchen, we snap the keyboard on and use it on the go for working and blog posting while riding along. It also is a great way to let the kids learn anything from letters and numbers to research for history reports and they be entertained with it as well – just playing games or streaming movies.
If you’re looking for a tablet or convertible, the Nextbook 10 is hard to beat. From a bang for the buck standpoint, it might be impossible to beat. Visit your local Target store or Target.com to learn more about this great tablet. Don’t forget to talk to your kids about e-safety before you turn them loose on your new tech.
