Every year, when the weather starts to turn ferocious and we enter the months of hibernation, we look for fun indoor activities to occupy our time and energy. Evening welcomes wind furies and I find myself inevitably next to the fireplace, sipping hot chocolate, with a crochet hook in hand. Turn on a movie or sit with a family member or friend, and it turns into a seat of utter bliss. Winter is the best season for crochet and knitting, because there are so many necessary accessories to keep each bit of our anatomy covered and frostbite-free, and we find ourselves with more time to sit inside and relax.

Crochet Ear Warmers
First, for yourself and basically every female in your life, girlfriends, daughters, sisters-in-law, etc., is the most simple and fun winter project: Ear warmers! These small projects are a great way to use leftover yarn.
It’s kind of like making a headband, but wider. I find these crucial to have on-hand when facing northern winters, because being quite vain and with thick curly hair, I find that hats do not flatter me and I refuse to wear them. This leaves my ears quite bare, of course, unless I can button on one of these beauties. There, protection achieved and vanity satisfied.
