DIY Protein Avocado Hair Treatment For Softer, Shinier Locks

This week we continue with the theme of all things Avocado and sharing beauty benefits of avocados! We have a recipe for a homemade Avocado Hair Treatment that you’re going to love. My hair is very thick and very coarse. The cold winter months certainly are not helping either. This Avocado Hair Mask treatment has been perfect for restoring moisture and making my hair feel and look great! Here is how to make a protein hair treatment with egg and avocado to turn dry hair into gorgeous hair and help prevent hair breakage.

Protein Treatment For Hair / Avocado Hair Mask Recipe

First, what is a hair treatment? A hair treatment is any product designed to improve the health, appearance, or manageability of hair. Hair treatments can target specific concerns like dryness, frizz, damage, dandruff, or thinning hair. They can be done at home or in a salon and may involve deep conditioning, protein strengthening, scalp care, or chemical processes. This DIY hair treatment has dual uses- conditioning and strengthening. It is perfect for dry, frizzy, or damaged hair.

Deep Conditioning Treatment – Hydrates and nourishes dry or damaged hair.

Protein Treatment – Strengthens weak or brittle hair by restoring keratin.

This hair treatment has many nutrients to nourish your hair. Avocado restores the moisture to your hair along with being high in Vitamin B and E. The avocado fruit flesh has so many hair benefits and they work to make dry hair softer. The egg is high in protein which strengthens hair and helps reduce breakage. The olive oil adds shine and conditions your hair. As Gisou points out, honey is “natural humectant properties seal in moisture to prevent future moisture loss”.

Avocado Hair Mask

Avocado Hair Care Protein Treatment Ingredients:

  • 1 Avocado (save the pit so you can grow avocado from seed)
  • 1 Egg
  • 3 Tbsp Olive Oil (or coconut oil)
  • 1 Tbs Honey

Avocado is excellent for deep conditioning and nourishing hair treatments due to its rich content of healthy fats, vitamins (A, D, E, and B6), and minerals like potassium and magnesium. It provides intense moisture, strengthens hair, and improves shine and elasticity.

Eggs are excellent for a protein and strengthening hair treatment due to their high protein content, vitamins (A, D, and B-complex), and biotin. They help repair damaged hair, reduce breakage, and promote growth. There are so many egg benefits for hair.

Olive oil is excellent for a moisturizing and strengthening hair treatment due to its rich content of fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin E. It deeply nourishes the hair, reduces frizz, and strengthens strands to prevent breakage.

Honey is excellent for a hydrating and repairing hair treatment due to its humectant properties, meaning it draws moisture into the hair. It’s also rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and antibacterial properties, making it great for both the hair and scalp.

As you can see this avocado hair protein treatment is packed with key ingredients for for healthy hair!

How To Make Avocado Hair Protein Treatment:

Cut the avocado and remove the pit. Scoop the fruit from the skin and mash it in a medium size bowl.

Add the egg, oil, and honey.

Combine well blending until it is a nice smooth mixture.

How To Use Hair Treatment:

Massage the mixture into your hair, starting at the ends and working to your roots and scalp. This will soothe a dry scalp in addition to making your hair feel amazing.

Let the Avocado Hair Treatment set on your hair and scalp for approximately 15-30 minutes. I like to place a plastic bag over my hair and scalp to let it set in and keep the hair mask from drying out. If you prefer, you can just use a claw clip to pin it back and out of your way while you let it soak into your hair. Or use a shower cap if you have one.

Rinse your hair well and shampoo as normal.

While you may not notice the difference in your hair directly out of the shower you’ll most certainly see the difference as it begins to dry. Your hair will be soft, shiny, and frizz free. It will feel nice and strong when you brush it.

The olive oil gives hair strength and adds a lot of shine. The honey will help lock in all the added moisture and will seal existing split ends. The egg also adds extra moisture and is full of protein for your hair.
