It’s about that time of the year, right parents? Schools in our area are gearing to start back up soon. My two kiddos don’t start back until the middle of August which still feels so early! Instead of springing it on them with “Hey kids, you’re going back to school tomorrow”, we made some Back to School Crafts as a fun way to get them used to the idea.  While my preschool aged kids were working on our crafts on different days, we talked about what they could expect and I answered questions. The back to school crafts were great conversations starters.

Let your imagination run wild with these DIY back-to-school crafts that encourage endless creativity. From imaginative paperclip bookmarks to custom-designed pencil toppers, explore a world of possibilities and add a touch of artistic flair to your child’s school routine. Kids of all ages will enjoy these easy crafts for the start of a new school year.

1. Back To School Paper Chain Tutorial

This is one of the best back to school crafts because that they can count down the days and ease into back to school time! this fun craft is a great idea to get them excited about the first week of school.

How to make your Back To School Paper Chain:

Gather your supplies and head to a table. If your child is old enough to use kid friendly scissors, he/she can help you cut out the paper chain strips of paper or they can help you write on the paper chain topper! Start by cutting strips of paper. The number of strips will be the number of days left until the first day of school! Once those are all cut out, lay those to the side. Making a topper for your child’s chain is next. We went with an apple (it’ simple to make) but your child can choose whatever he/she would like! Once you have sketched your object and cut it out, write a little somethings on the topper…your child’s name…their school…what grade they’re going in…whatever!

Once your topper and strips of paper are cut out, it’s time to make the back to school craft. Loop the strips in one another and staple together as you go. Once they’re all attached, hang in your child’s room or beside the front door! Pull one piece of the chain off each day. The first day of school will be the very last chain link to pull off!

Cute back to school paper chain idea! Maybe write helpful little notes on each link as they’re being put together. For example: You’ll get to make new friends, Listen to teacher, Always do your best work, etc. What you write could depend on whether your child is nervous, needs to be a listener, and so on.
These back to school crafts are such a fun idea, especially for the first day of school. I’ve been looking for creative ways to get my kids excited, and your free printables are a total lifesaver. It’s our first time trying DIY name tags, and they turned out adorable—plus, it’s a better way to build hand-eye coordination than screen time! We even turned it into a mini school project. I grabbed a few supplies from the craft store and let the kids go wild with pencil crafts and other heart crafty things—they had so much fun! Thanks for sharing the best ideas for school activities.
