We have made this handprint greeting card in previous years and it’s always appreciated by family members! This Valentine handprint art card is especially great for celebrating with family members or neighbors! You most likely have all the art and craft supplies that you need already. My kiddos love making these handprint crafts and hand delivering them when we can (mailing them is just fine too of course). Creating a handprint greeting card is a delightful and personalized way to send warm wishes to someone special. This hand tracing activity is great for grip strength development, writing readiness, and even as a fun sensory activity. It is also a really fun way to see what your child enjoys most about you or others!
DIY Valentine Handprint Art Cards
Making a hand tracing card is a thoughtful and meaningful way to celebrate special moments and show someone you care. It allows you to connect with the recipient on a deeper level and create lasting memories together.
Art Supplies Needed For Making Your Own Hand Shape Tracings Cards:
- plain white paper
- markers
- crayons
- stickers (optional)
You need some blank sheets of paper to use as the basis for your card. It can be plain white paper or construction paper.
We used crayons and markers for tracing, drawing, writing, and coloring. Alternatively, you could use non-toxic paint for making the handprint. However, it is messier and you will have to wait for it to dry.
The stickers are optional but fun, if you have preschool aged children like mine that can’t do very advanced drawing yet. My directions are also aimed at parents helping young kids with this handprint art but if your children are older, just give them the instructions and let them have at it!
How To Make A Valentine Handprint Craft Card:
What is extra special about this Valentine craft is that your child is going to list 5 things that they really enjoy about the person who will be receiving the card…one reason on each finger! It is so fun to see what special things they love about each family member! Grab your supplies and get ready for an fun and easy card making tutorial.
First, fold the longest edge of the sheet of paper in half to form a card.
I let my children each pick a color and we wrote at the top of the card: “5 reasons why you are the best Valentine!” I did this for my pre-school aged kids but if your kids are older they can do it themselves.
Allow your child to trace their hand. Younger preschoolers may need a little guidance.
Next, ask your child what they really like about the person they are making the card for and write those down. Write one reason in each finger. If your child can write by themself, let him/her do the writing! If not, do it for them.
Then let kids pick out a color to color in the handprint with. We tried to do coordinating colors. We traced with markers and then the kids colored in with a crayon.
Let kids decorate the handprint Valentine craft card with stickers. Finally, they can leave a sweet message inside or simply draw a heart and write their name.
Relatives always love receiving homemade crafts from my children and they love these handprint Valentine craft cards too! If you have an older child, they may even want to come upwith a valentine poem to write on the inside of the homemade handprint greeting card.
Conclusion
Handmade Valentine cards from preschoolers convey a personal touch that store-bought cards often lack. By creating a handprint card, you’re adding a unique and personalized element that shows you’ve put thought and effort into the gesture. Making handprint cards can be a fun and enjoyable activity for both children and adults alike. It allows for creativity to flourish as you design and decorate the card according to your imagination.
Handprint cards can become cherished keepsakes, especially when given on special occasions like birthdays, holidays, or milestones. The recipient can look back on the card years later and be reminded of the thoughtfulness behind the gesture.
