Erika Wassall, the Jersey Farm Scribe, here sharing with you a homemade onion soup mix recipe. You know those boxes of dry French onion soup mix? Turning that box of flavor into a soup or a dip is really only the beginning. I use it on roasted potatoes, chicken, roast pork, and meatloaf to make a yummy sauce or flavor rice… the list goes on. If you read my article on 3 Foods to Always Have in Your Kitchen, you’ll know how much I LOVE the flavor onion soup mix offers. I mean, the options are literally endless. BUT… while I love the convenience of little onion soup powder packets I (admittedly) buy at the grocery store sometimes, I certainly don’t love the store bought ingredient list. So I have started making my own MSG and gluten free onion soup mix.
I’ve been making my own French onion soup mix recipe and I love it. With this homemade version, you can have the same amazingly versatile flavor without it being packed with corn starch, MSG, crazy preservatives, and ingredients you can’t pronounce. By the way, I have had a few people ask me, is msg gluten free? Coeliac.org.uk says it is gluten-free but I still don’t want MSG because it gives me headaches.
