We love crafting around our house and even more so when it is seasonal crafting time! Halloween crafts are some of our favorites to make. I scrounged around our craft box and suggested some crafts that we could make and monster crafts won! We decided to make Paper Plate Monster Halloween Yard Decorations. This craft is pretty simple and great for preschoolers or kindergarteners  and there is hardly any mess which is always great. You more than likely already have everything that you need for this Paper Plate Monster Craft!

Crafting with kids is a lot of fun. It encourages kids to be imaginative, creative, and active in making something. They learn how things work and that it takes work to create something. It can also be a life long skill that they learn. Crafts can be simple or involved depending on the child’s age and they should be a bit challenging to really fully engage them but not to hard to discourage them. It is also a great idea to display crafts for at least a little while after they are done to show you are proud of their work.

Craft Supplies Needed for Monster Paper Plates:

  • Colored Paper Plates (any colors will work)
  • Scissors
  • Glue (glue sticks work fine or tape would work too)
  • White Paper
  • Black Marker
  • Straws

How to Make Monster Paper Plate Halloween Yard Decorations:

Grab your supplies and find a spot to spread out.

Let your kiddo decide on what color monsters he/she would like to make and set those plates aside.

It’s time to draw the monster eyes and mouths. We sketched out eyes on our white paper and then made the mouth from a black paper black. If you don’t have a black plate, you can definitely use your black marker to draw mouths on your white paper and then cut those out.

I did the cutting and my son did all the gluing!

Once we had assembled our monsters, it was time to attach the straws to the back (this is going to be stuck into the ground so leave a decent amount of the straw sticking out from the bottom. After taping the straws to the back, it’s time to find a place in the yard to decorate! We lined our Paper Plate Monster Halloween Yard Decorations up by our walkway!

Conclusion

Making a paper plate monster craft can be a fun and engaging activity for several reasons:

  1. Creativity: It allows kids (and adults!) to use their imagination to come up with unique and colorful monster designs.
  2. Fine motor skills: Cutting, coloring, and gluing help develop fine motor skills in children.
  3. Sensory exploration: Painting and feeling different textures of materials like construction paper and pipe cleaners can be a sensory-rich experience.
  4. Expression: Creating a monster allows for self-expression and can be a way for children to express emotions or feelings in a safe and creative manner.
  5. Fun and entertainment: It’s simply a fun and entertaining activity that can be enjoyed alone or with others, making it great for parties, playdates, or rainy days indoors.

Overall, making a paper plate monster can be a great way to spend some creative time and create a unique piece of art. Does your child like making crafts? This Paper Plate Monster craft is perfect to use as Halloween yard decorations!
