If you love making your own beauty products, I think you will love this DIY solid perfume recipe! I remember when I was growing up, my grandmother had this fancy gold compact but it wasn’t make-up. It actually contained a soft floral fragrance in a solid form. She would let me dab a little on and I felt so fancy! I have come up with a solid fragrance recipe that isn’t complicated at all! The best part, it’s totally customizable. You can add whatever essential oils you like! I’ll be sharing one of my favorite Fall/Winter signature scent with you all. Solid perfume is a great alternative to spray perfumes, especially when you are traveling by airplane and don’t want the extra liquids.

DIY Solid Perfume Tutorial

solid perfume recipe

Making solid perfume is a lovely way to create a personalized scent using natural ingredients, without the alcohol or synthetic chemicals often found in store-bought liquid perfumes. It’s travel-friendly, mess-free, and can be easily tucked into a pocket or bag. Plus, it allows for creativity—you can tailor the scent to your mood or season and enjoy a soothing ritual as you apply it to your pulse points. Solid perfumes also tend to have a more subtle, intimate aroma, perfect for those who prefer lighter, more natural fragrances.

Solid Perfume DIY Supplies:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Beeswax in small pellets (white looks prettier than yellow)
  • Young Living Spearmint Essential Oil (refreshing scent)
  • Young Living Ylang Ylang Essential Oil (beautiful floral scent)
  • Empty Lip Balm Container (this recipe actually makes 2-3)
  • Bowl
  • Spoon

This particular solid perfume recipe uses coconut oil and beeswax as a skin-friendly base. Coconut oil moisturizes the skin and helps carry the scent, while beeswax gives the perfume its solid form and adds a gentle, natural scent of its own. The essential oils—Spearmint and Ylang Ylang from Young Living—offer a refreshing and uplifting blend: Spearmint provides a cool, invigorating note, while Ylang Ylang adds a rich floral depth. Together, they create a beautifully balanced scent that’s both energizing and calming. Follow me on Instagram to get more essential oils tips or order oils.

Here’s a simple and elegant solid perfume recipe using these all natural ingredients — it’s great for personal use or gifting!

How To Make Solid Perfume:

Grab your supplies and head to the kitchen. Start the solid perfume recipe with your coconut oil and your beeswax (can be found at local health food stores or online).

To make solid perfume, measure out 1 TBSP of coconut oil and pour into a microwave safe bowl. Next, add 1 TBSP of your beeswax into the bowl as well. Place on your microwave and heat for 20 seconds and then stir. Do this until everything is melted and you have a liquid. Sometimes the beeswax takes a little long to totally melt but that’s normal. Once everything is melted carefully remove your bowl with a towel or oven glove (it will be extremely hot!).

Let the mixture cool for about 5 minutes and add your essential oils. Add 10 drops of your Spearmint and 10 Drops of your Ylang Ylang. Sweet orange is another lovely fragrance if you need a substitution essential oil.

Once your oils are stirred in, pour into your lip balm tubes with your spoon or small measuring cup. Alternatively, you can use a pour into a solid perfume compact or lip balm tin. Your DIY solid perfume is almost done.

Let them cool for about 3-4 hours before using. They will harden into a solid form.

Pro Tips:

  • Want a stronger scent? Try 15 drops of each oil.
  • If you’d like a lighter scent, cut the essential oil amounts in half.
  • Test the scent balance before pouring—add more floral or minty notes to suit your vibe.
  • This base has a firm but smooth texture, perfect for dabbing on wrists, neck, or behind ears.

How To Use Solid Perfume Fragrance:

Keep solid perfume in a cool place. If left in the sun or someplace warm, they will melt!

When you make your solid perfume in this handy dandy empty lip balm containers, they are so easy to just rub on dry skin. You can take off the lid, roll up the solid and then swipe over places like your collarbones, you wrists, and behind your ears. It leaves a small amount in a thin layer and distributes the solid scent in a gentle way.

According to Self Magazine, “The pulse points are areas on the body where the veins flow close to the skin. These spots emit heat, which helps fragrance develop faster.”

Conclusion

This solid perfume recipe is a simple yet luxurious way to enjoy the art of natural beauty. By combining nourishing ingredients like coconut oil and beeswax with high-quality essential oils, you’re not only creating a beautiful scent but also treating your skin with care. Making your own perfume is a small act of self-expression and mindfulness—one that connects you to the ingredients and the process. Whether you’re crafting it for yourself or as a heartfelt gift, this DIY project is a lovely reminder that beauty can be natural, personal, and deeply meaningful.
