DIY Honey Scrub For Body, Face, and Or Lips
This sugar and honey body scrub DIY recipe can be made with a just few items from the kitchen. The ingredients are chosen to leave your skin feeling smooth and soft. Plus, when you make your own natural skincare products, you can save money!
A honey sugar scrub has added benefits compared to a regular sugar scrub because honey is:
- A Natural Humectant – Honey draws moisture into the skin, keeping it hydrated longer than a sugar scrub alone.
- Antibacterial & Antimicrobial – Helps prevent breakouts and soothes irritated skin.
- Packed with Antioxidants – Fights free radicals that contribute to aging and dull skin.
- More Nourishing – Contains vitamins, enzymes, and amino acids that promote skin healing.
- Provides a Smoother Texture – Honey makes the scrub more spreadable and less harsh on the skin compared to just sugar and oil.
Smooth and nourish skin with this homemade scrub.
Sugar Honey Scrub DIY Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of sugar (Demerara sugar is preferable but white sugar or brown sugar will work fine too.)
- 1 tablespoon of avocado oil (Or you may use a substitute such as olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, or almond oil)
- 1/4 cup of raw honey
- 1 ripe banana, peeled and mashed with a fork
Your skin is sure to enjoy the sugar and honey body scrub DIY ingredients.
Cane sugar is a natural physical exfoliant because of its grainy texture and a chemical exfoliant because it is water soluble. I used Demerara sugar. It is much like white sugar except that it is minimally processed which means still contains traces micronutrients.
Oil is a deep moisturizing agent. You can be flexible with the type of oil you use in this scrub. I prefer avocado oil because it has so many benefits to the skin. Alternatively, you can use olive oil as it is cheaper, more readily on hand in most kitchens, and still good for your skin.
Honey is a natural antibacterial which is great for acne treatment. It also draws water into skin cells and hydrates the skin. Honey is also known to have anti-aging properties. Healthline has even more info on the benefits of honey for your skin. Please be sure that you use natural and untreated raw honey as it has extra medicinal benefits.
Bananas are packed with vitamins A, B and C and moisturize the skin. Healthline also says that “It’s thought that a banana face mask can help increase collagen via silica, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles. “
This honey sugar body scrub is a natural exfoliant that can stimulate collagen production, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and leave your skin looking firm, plump, and rejuvenated. Sweet! Literally.
How To Make Honey Scrub With Banana:
1. In a medium bowl, mix the sugar, avocado oil, and honey together until smooth. This combination is your DIY honey scrub.
2. Mix in the mashed banana.
If you add mashed banana to your honey sugar scrub, it’s best to use it all immediately or within 24 hours if stored in a glass jar in the fridge. If you have dry skin or sensitive skin, you’ll want a scrub that’s gentle, hydrating, and nourishing. I love the recipe with banana for a more gentle exfoliation scrub.
If you don’t add the banana, you can store in an airtight jar; it can last for about 2-3 weeks at room temperature or longer in the fridge. You will need to add an extra tablespoon of oil to make up for the missing moisture from the banana.
How to Use:
I like to apply the honey scrub to my whole body before I jump in the shower.
- On Face & Body – Apply to damp skin, gently massaging in circular motions for 1-2 minutes as you apply.
- On Lips – Lightly rub a small amount on your lips for 30 seconds.
- Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
- Follow up with a moisturizer to lock in hydration.
This easy to make sugar and honey scrub will leave your skin nourished, moisturized, and exfoliated.
I personally use this as both a facial mask and a body scrub once every two weeks. For those who have oily skin, use it once or twice a week.
Conclusion
From avoiding harsh chemicals to harnessing the natural antibacterial properties of honey, this DIY solution can transform your skincare routine. With summer just around the corner, it’s time to prep your skin and achieve a smooth and radiant complexion. A honey body scrub can effectively remove dry and flaky skin, leaving you with a healthy glow that’s perfect for the beach or poolside.
I hope you enjoy this simple Raw Honey DIY body scrub. I just love how smooth and soft my skin feels after using this sugar and honey body scrub. Have you tried DIY beauty products before? What are your favorite products to make yourself?
