I’m proud to be working with CVS Pharmacy for their 2017 influencer relations program and share with you how to make the most of the CVS ExtraCare Card savings. All opinions expressed are my own, and all product claims or program details shared should be verified at CVS.com or with the appropriate manufacturers.
You are probably already familiar with CVS Pharmacy and you probably already love their products and services including the MinuteClinic®. CVS is all about providing better health options for your and your family members. They also provide more ways to save with their CVS card, also known as the CVS ExtraCare card. First, I’m going to get to the details of 10 ways to save more with CVS ExtraCare. Then, I will also share the new innovations coming to your local CVS at the bottom of this post!
How To Get A CVS Card
Don’t have a CVS Extra Care Card yet? You can create an account for ExtraCare rewards online right here-> cvs.com/extracare
The link above works to sign in or to create a new online account and get an extracare card number you can use right away. They will have the new card mailed to you.
They will just ask for your email address and phone number. New members will be surprised how fast the savings add up! You can use the mobile app to track it or look at the bottom of your receipt for savings. They will also ask for your birthday because you get a birthday treat- $3 ExtraBucks, (limited to one per calendar year per card).
The CVS ExtraCare Card Rewards Program Helps You Maximize Savings
Did you know that the CVS ExtraCare Rewards program is the longest running in the drugstore space with a 15+ year history? And they just keep adding more ways for you to save into the Extracare program by offering personalized value to every member, in the store, online and now with curbside pickup, on-the-go.
1. 2% Back With The CVS Card
Through the CVS Pharmacy ExtraCare Rewards program, you can save and automatically earn 2% back in ExtraBucks Rewards on nearly everything you buy at CVS. Now that is sweet.
ExtraBucks® Rewards are like “free CVS money” that can be used on most things at CVS Pharmacy. These 2% back rewards are just for scanning a CVS Extra Care Card during each shopping trip, and are paid out quarterly on January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1. There is no limit to the number of ExtraBuck Rewards a cardholder can earn and you can earn Extra Bucks even when you are redeeming previous rewards.
There are a few exclusions you should be aware of. You will not earn the 2% back on gift cards, postage stamps, money orders, bottle deposits, bus passes, ephedrine products, and governmental fees or items reimbursed by a government health plan. Details on the CVS website.
2. Automatic Discounts
Just scan your CVS Pharmacy ExtraCare Card every time you shop! That will ensure you get the 2% back in ExtraBucks (mentioned above) and it will ensure you get automatic discounted sale prices (and those can add up quickly). One time I got a $10 discount on a special device cord just for using my card!
3. Personalized Savings By Email
If you use your CVS Pharmacy ExtraCare Card each time you shop and you opt in, CVS can send you personalized savings! You can opt-in to receive additional personalized coupons based on your shopping history and email-exclusive offers directly in your e-mail inbox.

Want even more coupons? Just visit your CVS ExtraCare Coupon Center red kiosk where you can can scan your CVS Pharmacy ExtraCare Card before you shop, to print available coupons or quarterly ExtraBucks® Rewards you can use right away. You will receive a new, unique offer each week, all year long. Now that is fun! Bonus tip- the coupon centers also function as price-checkers.
5. Social Media Savings:
Follow CVS Pharmacy ExtraCare on Twitter @CVSpharmacy (Twitter.com/CVSPharmacy) or “Like” the CVS Pharmacy Facebook page for the latest deals, inside scoop updates, as well as exclusive coupons and contests.
6. ExtraCare Beauty Club
ExtraCare members who sign up for the Beauty Club receive special savings and rewards, including instant 10% off beauty shopping pass after enrollment, $5 ExtraBucks® Rewards for every $50 spent on qualifying beauty products, plus email newsletters with exclusive coupons, beauty tips and new product information. We all like to save money on prescriptions! Members who sign up for CVS Extracare Pharmacy & Health Rewards earn $5 ExtraBucks® Rewards for every 10 prescriptions filled. You can even earn rewards for things like getting vaccinations, enrolling in online prescription refill services, and signing up for prescription text message alerts. Did you know you can get the flu shot at your CVS pharmacy store? Your CVS Pharmacy ExtraCare savings can add up quickly. You can even get your Rx delivery by mail from CVS Caremark (see CVS website for details).
8. CVS Weekly Ad Circular
Plus, there is the good old fashioned weekly ad circular which is packed full of sales, offers to earn ExtraBucks® Rewards by purchasing specially-advertised items that pay out at the time of the qualifying purchase, and manufacturer’s coupons.
9. Receipt Savings
Oh and when you shop, you can get even more savings on receipt or in your email with your digital receipt, if you prefer. CVS Pharmacy launched digital receipts as a new option for all ExtraCare Rewards members!
10. Manufacturer Coupons
Yes, you can still use manufacturer’s coupons! Wait for it… the super exciting part is that CVS is in the process of making those available in their app (see below) and giving you the option to send to card (see below).
With so many ways to save, don’t feel overwhelmed. Convenience is top of mind for CVS and I have two last tips make it super duper easy to save with the CVS ExtraCare Rewards Program!
Two Bonus Tips To Make Saving With CVS ExtraCare Even Easier:
11. Send to CVS ExtraCare Card
For those shoppers who prefer not to print and keep track of paper coupons and rewards (that is so me), the “Send to Card” feature is available in emails and online to let shoppers redeem personalized savings and ExtraBucks® Rewards digitally by sending the discounts straight to their ExtraCare cards. Then when the cashier scans the CVS Extra Care Card, the extra coupons and savings you sent pop up as well!
12. CVS Pharmacy App
Oh, I am so excited to have discovered the CVS App! That is what makes all this saving possible for someone like me who is not a born couponer. I always loved the CVS ExtraCare Card but now I love it even more because I linked it to the app and the app makes it easy to track and access my ExtraBucks as well as easy to find and “send to card” any other extra savings that are available to me. It also makes it sign up for the ExtraCare Beauty Club and the CVS ExtraCare Health & Pharmacy Rewards. You’re going to love the CVS Pharmacy App!
So now you know 10 ways to save money at CVS and 2 ways to make that even easier! I also want to tell you about some of the exciting innovations that CVS has been working on just because when I learned about them I felt really proud of the work CVS is doing and I think you might want to share in the excitement!
Cool CVS Innovations
What you might not know is that CVS is a pharmacy innovation company with a simple and clear purpose, “Helping people on their path to better health.” Unlike a lot of companies with lofty goals, they “walk the talk” and they really proved it in 2014 when they quit selling tobacco products because doing so conflicted with the purpose of helping people on their path to better health. Since that landmark decision, CVS has been using their momentum to make other changes and be innovative in ways that they can help the consumer to make better health decisions.
I recently attended a CVS Pharmacy Health & Beauty Innovation event and I was really impressed by all the positive and exciting changes they are making in order to make healthy choices easier for everyone. Here are a few of the things I jotted down to share with you:
- CVS has removed all trans fats from their CVS brand food products (1.5 years ahead of FDA requirements).
- They have committed to remove parabens, phalathates, and most prevalent formaldehyde donors from their CVS brand beauty products by 2019, Quarter 4.
- Adding high quality, niche health brands to CVS offerings such as New Chapter.
- Introducing curb side pick up so you can fit healthy into your on-the-go schedule.
- Vision and hearing stations starting to roll out to stores.
So there you have it- even more reasons to love your CVS store- better health choices and more savings.
I hope your CVS ExtraCare account and these tips help you save even more on your next purchase! If you have a card already, how many ExtraCare Bucks have you earned?
