That is why I am so proud of my best friend for following her heart and working on her passion to help preserve our environment. She founded MamaGaia not only to help use plastic that would otherwise be wasted, but also to make things that reduce the need for more plastic creation. Pretty fabulous!
For almost 2 years she has been working on this passion project. She started collecting used plastic from her community, then sorting and shredding it. Then she got the equipment to make something with it, and voilá (after many hurdles and glitches), she got the process of making soap dishes down.
She chose soap dishes for her first products made from recycled plastic because they encourage bar soap and bar shampoo use. This in turn uses much less single-use plastic than liquid soaps and liquid shampoos which come in single use plastic containers. Therefore, her recycled soap dish cuts down on the plastic waste stream in two ways!
I believe they help in a third way too. Just calling attention to the fact that single use plastics are harmful can be educational. Furthermore, her recycled plastic soap dish can inspire us all to do our part to use less plastic and recycle.
