Educational Insights recently offered me the chance to review one of their best selling board games- the hilarious word game- Blurt!  My kids are just beginning to get into board games and I like expanding their vocabulary so I thought we might enjoy the Blurt Game. It has become a whole household favorite! Blurt is a fun word game where players have to guess a word based on a clue. The game is played by reading a definition, and players race to blurt out the word that matches the definition. It’s a fast-paced and entertaining game that tests your vocabulary and quick thinking skills.

Educational Insights Blurt Word Game was provided in order to facilitate review.

Blurt Board Game Review:

Blurt Word Game

Blurt! is a board game of rapid word recall. Players take turns reading clues aloud, competing to blurt out the correct answer first and move ahead on the board. The first person or team to circle the board wins. It is pretty simple and yet a game that gets the brain working and you laughing.

Inside the box you will find one game board, 300 Blurt cards (which contain 1800 clues), 6 game pieces, 1 die, and a guide.

How To Play Blurt

  1. Roll the die. Read the corresponding clue.
  2. All players blurt out an answer as quickly as they can think of one.
  3. The first player to blurt out the correct answer moves ahead that many spaces on the board.

There are also directions for a junior version of the game- aimed at 7 to 9 year olds.  My kids are 7 and almost 5 so I made a few modifications to help the game move smoothly.  Instead of alternating the reading of the clues, I just did that every turn while my kids guessed the words.  Then the first person to guess the correct word would role the dice to see how far they got to move.  I always read the beginning clues on the card as the are more easy.

My kids loved the Blurt Game and sometimes my 7 year old even wants to be the reader so I get to battle with my almost 5 year old to come up with the word first.  I go easy on him but I really enjoy seeing him work hard to get the right word and how proud he looks when he gets it first.

“Blurt is a great vocabulary builder for kids, a hilarious addition to adult parties, and a must for family game night.”

Blurt Game Review Update- Still A Great Word Game!

2015- I just thought I would check in and say that all these years later, my kids and I still love Blurt! In fact it has gotten more fun because now I can play it with them. My kids are 10 and 8 now and they both enjoy it. Blurt is a perfect word game for family night.

Here are a few Blurt Card Clues:

  • A large, furry rodent with a flat tail and large front teeth
  • A place in the human body where two bones come together
  • A slow moving animal with a soft body inside a spiral shell
  • An orange or brown coating that forms on iron or steel when it is exposed to moisture
  • A large area of ocean or sea that is partly enclosed by land

Answers in same order:

  • Beaver
  • Joint
  • Snail
  • Rust
  • Gulf

If you tried to answer those yourself of with your kids, you can see why they call it a “riotous game of rapid word recall”. Blurt is a perfect choice if a teacher requests classroom games. It is a fun game that kids and adults will enjoy playing.

You can also order it through my affiliate Amazon link.

I was provided with Blurt in the hopes that I would share my honest opinions.  I received no monetary compensation and the opinions expressed are my own.
