The afternoon slump is REAL! What is it about the afternoon that makes your mind so tired? Working for many hours that morning? Straining your brain on specific projects or work that needed to get done? Yes, those all happen but you can’t just wind down everyday when the clock hits 2pm. That is why I love essential oils for concentration. This Concentration Roller Blend is the perfect oil blend to roll on to help you concentrate and focus especially during those difficult afternoon hours! It smells divine too!
Disclaimer: Vetiver essential oil should NEVER be used if you are pregnant or nursing. It’s important to talk with a healthcare professional before you begin using essential oils and be sure to research the quality of a brand’s products. Always do a patch test before trying a new essential oil for the first time.
Concentration Roller Blend Recipe Tutorial

Several essential oils are believed to help improve concentration and focus. While scientific evidence supporting their effectiveness is limited, many people find them helpful, including myself! I make a blend with a few essential oils commonly recommended for concentration. See my simple recipe below.
Concentration Essential Oil Blend Ingredients & Supplies Needed:
- 10ml glass roller bottle
- carrier oil (sweet almond oil, liquid coconut oil, or grapeseed oil)
- 2 drops lemon essential oil (uplifting, helps focus)
- 2 drops Spearmint essential oil (refreshing, clears the mind)
- 1 drop Vetiver essential oil (grounding, reduces mental fatigue)
That’s a 2.5% dilution, which is safe for adults for topical use (like temples, wrists, or back of the neck).

Why I chose theses essential oils for focus and concentration:
Lemon just may be one of the best essential oils for studying and concentration. As Healthline says, “In a small 2004 study of fourth graders, students who attended language lessons in a classroom where lemon oil was diffused performed much better on their exams. Another small study performed in 2008 concluded that aromatherapy with essential oils such as lemon could improve the cognitive function of people with Alzheimer’s disease.”
According to Medical News Today, “Spearmint and rosemary extracts have recently been found to improve memory. Prof. Susan Farr, from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, has suggested that if antioxidants from spearmint and rosemary are made into an enhanced extract, they may help to improve learning and memory. This could help with age-related cognitive decline.”
According to Dr. Axe, “Recent research credits vetiver oil for treating symptoms of ADHD and ADD…Using vetiver oil is also a way to boost energy levels when you’re exhausted.” Vetiver should NOT be used when pregnant or breastfeeding.

How to make a DIY Focus And Concentration EO Roller Blend:
Gather your supplies and head to the table. Unscrew the top off of your roller bottle and pop the rollerball off. Start with your essential oils.
Carefully drop 2 drops of each of lemon and spearmint essential oil into your roller bottle. Then 1 drop of vetiver essential oil. Each of these essential oils were picked to helped you energize and focus.
Next slowly pour your carrier oil into your bottle with the essential oils. The oil you mix with your essential oils is called a carrier oil because it helps “carry” or spread your essential oil blend on a larger surface area in a diluted way that is safe and effective. It also helps your mixture last longer.
Once you have filled your bottle up with your carrier oil, pop the rollerball top back on, give a gentle shake to mix everything together.
It is ready to roll on! The best spots to roll this oil blend on your wrists, behind ears, and even on your temples. Keep away from eyes and other sensitive areas. For external use only. This recipe is intended for adults and should not be used on children under 6 years old.

If you want to make up a larger batch, you can mix 8 drops of each lemon essential oil, Spearmint essential oil, and Vetiver essential oil with 2 oz of carrier oil. This is about a 2% dilution, which is safe for most adults. These are all all fairly potent oils so it is always better to start with less drops of EO if you have not used essential oils before. The 2 oz batch can be portioned out to make six 10 ml roller bottles if you are making gifts for your friends.
How To Use:
The suggested locations (temples, wrists, back of the neck) aren’t random—they’re chosen because of how essential oils work on both the body and mind:
- Temples– Close to the head and sinuses, which makes it easier to experience the aroma as you breathe it in. It’s also a traditional spot for focus and tension blends.
- Wrists– Thin skin and pulse points help the scent diffuse into the air around you. Every time you move your hands, you’ll catch the aroma again.
- Back of the neck– Another pulse point that warms the oils slightly, plus it’s close to the brainstem—helping with grounding and concentration support.
These areas give you a good aromatic effect (since inhalation is one of the most effective ways to use essential oils for concentration) while also allowing some topical absorption without being overwhelming.
The small size of the bottle makes it perfect for toting around with you or great to toss in your desk drawer or even in your kitchen or bathroom drawer. This blend is made with some great energizing oils!

Lemon oil has a fresh, citrusy scent that can uplift mood and promote mental clarity.

Improving focus can be challenging, especially in today’s world filled with distractions. To use these essential oils for concentration and focus, you can diffuse them in a room using an essential oil diffuser, inhale them directly from the bottle, or make my recipe which dilutes them with a carrier oil and then apply them to pulse points like the wrists.

Whether applied with a carrier oil to pulse points, diffused in your workspace, or used in an inhaler, these plant-based remedies help sharpen concentration while also promoting a sense of calm.
