Tis the season for congestion and coughs, right?! There are so many things on the market to use to try to help with these two things but they all seem to be packed full of lots of ingredients that not many people know how to pronounce! I have the perfect DIY Congestion Rub recipe! It’s easy to make and only calls for a handful of ingredients. The best part is that this homemade vapor rub is all natural! There are no synthetic ingredients, no artificial colors or dyes and no artificial scents! This all natural, homemade sinus and chest congestion relief rub is perfect for the whole family!

DIY All Natural Congestion Relief Rub Tutorial

A vapor rub works by using essential oils to help relieve chest congestion and ease breathing. When applied to the chest, back, or feet, the active ingredients create a cooling sensation that can soothe irritation and provide a feeling of clearer airways. The strong vapors from the rub help open nasal passages and reduce coughing. Additionally, the moisturizing base helps lock in moisture and provides a soothing effect on the skin.

All Natural Congestion Rub Ingredients/Supplies Needed:

  • Young Living Peppermint, Pine and Eucalyptus Essential Oils (My family only uses Young Living Essential Oils. I can not assure you that other brand essential oils will work.)
  • Organic Coconut Oil
  • Organic Shea Butter
  • Small Jar (4-6oz)
  • Small Mixing Bowl
  • Fork

How To Make Sinus Congestion Relief Rub:

Grab your organic coconut oil and your organic shea butter. Scoop out 1/4 cup of your coconut oil and place in your mixing bowl. Scoop out 1/2 Tablespoon of shea butter and add to your mixing bowl as well.

Take your fork and whip those 2 ingredients together for 2-3 minutes. Once they are mixed well, add 10 drops of peppermint essential oil and 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Grab your pine essential oil and add 8 drops of that one.

Once you have added all your essential oils, mix with your fork again. Whip all ingredients together for another 2-3 minutes. Once everything is mixed together, pour your rub into a clean jar (you might need to grab a spatula to scrape the sides of your bowl.). Store in a cool place.

How to use your All Natural Chest Congestion Relief Rub:

Where to rub for sinus relief: Take a small amount of your Sinus Congestion Relief Rub and rub on chest and neck. You can even rub a tiny bit on bridge of nose. Be careful not to get in eyes or eye area as the peppermint oil will cause a temporary burning sensation. Apply every hour or as often as needed until the congestion symptoms are gone.

Important:

For ages 5 and up. This rub is not intended to prevent, treat, or cure any disease. Please consult with your doctor about any health questions or concerns before use. If this is your first time using essential oils please test a very small amount on a small portion of your skin like your forearm. This will help ensure you do not have any sensitivities before applying on a larger area.

Conclusion

Making your own homemade vapor rub is a natural and effective way to relieve chest congestion while avoiding synthetic ingredients. With simple ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, and essential oils such as eucalyptus and peppermint, you can create a soothing balm tailored to your needs. This DIY remedy provides a gentle yet powerful way to support respiratory health, making it a great alternative to store-bought options. Whether for yourself or your family, a homemade vapor rub offers a comforting, holistic approach to congestion relief.
