Every year we take an annual camping trip to the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and enjoy all the natural beauty. We also like to enjoy Dollywood and the cute shops in Gatlinburg. Dollywood has lots of family attractions to satisfy the whole family from toddlers to teens to adults! Here is a list of all of the Dollywood Roller Coasters so you can plan ahead for which members of your family want to do which rides.
Where Is Dollywood?
Located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, which is at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, Dollywood is a wonderful spot that both parents and kids can enjoy. Like its famous namesake, Dolly Parton, I hear that Dollywood delivers the best in live entertainment. I know many families that just love visiting the Dollywood each year and I say that it is non-stop entertainment with fun activities, amazing rides, music, and all kids of shopping! What I really love about Dollywood is that you get all the thrills and excitement of Dollywood set right next to the pristine beauty of the Smokies so we can all get our fixes in one spot in the United States.
“The complete Dollywood Experience is a multi-park, multi-day adventure! Enjoy the 150-acre Dollywood themepark and its rides, attractions, food and entertainment. Then visit the adjacent 30-acre Dollywood’s Splash Country and its water slides and attractions.”

Thunderhead
An old sawmill once moved lumber out of the mountains at Thunderhead Gap. Now the Thunderhead massive wooden coaster stands tall among the mighty trees and takes advantage of the area’s rough and tumble terrain to create a daring ride featuring a 100-foot drop and a top speed of 55 mph. 48″ minimum height to ride.

Tennessee Tornado
A force of nature all its own, this triple spiral-looping coaster makes you feel like you’ve landed inside a funnel cloud as you zoom down a 128-foot drop through an actual mountain at speeds nearing 70 mph.

LOCATION: Craftsman’s Valley
Mystery Mine
Steel coaster where a 1,811-foot track travels through an abandoned coal mine. Uncertain encounters and amazing maneuvers await, including a hair-raising 95-degree, 85-foot vertical drop that plunges into darkness!

Lightning Rod ®
Themed after a tricked out 1950s-era hot rod, the Lightning Rod ® is a ground breaking roller coaster. It launches riders from zero to 45 mph more than 20 stories up its lift hill to one of the ride’s first airtime moments. 48″ minimum height to ride.

FireChaser Express ®
FireChaser Express – the nation’s first dual-launch family coaster – blasting riders forward and backward!

Blazing Fury
Riders scream through town on this indoor roller coaster, taking each hill and curve with great speed as they try to outrun the fire.
42″ minimum height to ride.

DragonFlier
The newest roller coaster at Dollywood is the DragonFlier. This coaster mimics the flight of a Smoky Mountain dragonfly as it speeds through the terrain in a twisting, unpredictable path. Enjoy the rush of wind and the thrill of flight.

Updates on Newest Roller Coasters At Dollywood
Lightning Rod reopened with new track in 2021. If you are thrill seeker, you are sure to enjoy the variety of rides, especially the newest addition.
According to Southern Living, you can expect a brand new Dollywood roller coaster in 2023. They say the new attraction “coming soon to Dollywood Parks & Resorts is the Big Bear Mountain Roller Coaster that will be almost 4,000 feet long. That makes it the longest coaster in the park.”
Extra Fun At Dollywood:
Dollywood amusement park always has cool events going on so check the calendar to see if you get in on some extra fun!
In May you can check out “Barbeque and Bluegrass,” featuring live music from some of the greatest Bluegrass artists, and of course – BBQ! I love Bluegrass music and good food so the Barbeque and Bluegrass festival sounds great to me! Plus, all summer long, the park will have extended hours and nightly fireworks for their “Great American Summer.” Everyone in my family loves fireworks so that is a pretty nice bonus and way to cap off a fabulous day.

We purchased a time share in Pigeon Forge years ago because of our experience inside Dollywood. We gave the kids the choice between DisneyWorld and Dollywood (they’ve been to both) and they picked Dolly, hands down.

I like the Wild Eagle because of the spiral loops. I love all kinds of roller coasters but it is my favorite roller coaster anywhere. It’s hard to find high quality writing like yours these days. I honestly appreciate individuals like you! Take care!!
