I recently came up with the idea of combining my shower gel with my body scrub and I have to admit, I found it to be pretty genius! This Tropical DIY Exfoliating Body Wash is one that I think you will really enjoy for softer, smoother skin! It’s a body wash + body scrub in one. The scrub is very gentle so if you are looking for a serious scrub, you can make gritty exfoliators to have on hand for those times. This natural exfoliating body can be used daily because it is so gentle. The smell is amazing and the best part…it’s all-natural and filled with clean, eco-friendly ingredients. This DIY body wash recipe is easy to make and you might even have everything you need on hand. Here I will share my step-by-step tutorial for how to make your own exfoliating body wash.

This post was originally published on April 24, 2019. I have added a printable recipe card and republished it here for my new readers to enjoy.

Exfoliating DIY Body Wash Scrub Tutorial

DIY Exfoliating Body Wash

Exfoliating body wash offers several benefits for your skin:

  1. Removes Dead Skin Cells: It helps slough off dead skin cells, promoting smoother and more radiant skin.
  2. Prevents Clogged Pores: By removing dead skin and impurities, it can help prevent clogged pores, reducing the likelihood of breakouts, particularly on the back and chest.
  3. Improves Skin Texture: Regular exfoliation can improve the overall texture of your skin, making it feel softer and more even.
  4. Enhances Product Absorption: Exfoliated skin can absorb moisturizers and other skincare products more effectively, boosting their benefits.
  5. Evens Skin Tone: It can help reduce the appearance of dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone over time.
  6. Promotes Circulation: The massaging action during exfoliation can stimulate blood circulation, contributing to healthier-looking skin.
  7. Prepares Skin for Shaving: Exfoliating before shaving can help prevent ingrown hairs and ensure a smoother shave.

Now, you know why may want to try a body wash scrub. Here is how to make body scrub yourself!

Making DIY body products is something I love to do because then you know exactly what is is in them. Here is how to make body scrub with body wash. So easy!

This DIY body wash with Castile soap offers the all the benefits of natural Castile soap. This plant based oil soap is affordable, eco-friendly, and great for your skin.

Distilled water is best choice for DIY soap recipes but if you don’t have any, filtered water is a great choice. Yes, tap water will work fine too.

The granulated white sugar is actually the part of this recipe that makes it a DIY body wash scrub. The sugar will work to exfoliate dry, dead skin as it dissolves during the rubbing motion you will make as you clean your body. It is great for all different skin types.

You could use a fine grain sea salt in place of the sugar. It would provide the added benefit of sea minerals but it is also more abrasive to the skin so it works best on oily skin types only.

The essential oils offer a wonderful tropical scent as well as the antimicrobial, and healing properties they bring to the homemade body wash as well. The citrus essential oils are so fresh and clean smelling and I find them to be uplifting. All three oils have anti-bacterial qualities and find them to useful on acne-prone skin like the back.

How To Make Body Wash:

The instructions for how to make body wash are below and they are very simple to follow.

Gather all your exfoliating body wash recipe supplies and head to the kitchen counter. Start with your castile soap and sugar.

Pour 1 cup of your Dr Bronner’s Lavender Soap into your squeeze bottle. Next, add 2 TBSP of your sugar into the bottle as well.

Grab your essential oils (*I only use & trust Young Living essential oils since they are high quality and truly pure) and add 10 drops of Lavender, 5 drops of Lime, and 5 drops of Orange. These essential oils are great for the skin and they are very uplifting so you will love the way this homemade body wash smells and makes you feel.

Finally, add in your 1/4 cup of distilled water. Your exfoliating liquid soap is done and ready to be used.

How To Use Homemade Exfoliating Body Scrub:

You will want to give your homemade body wash scrub a good shake before each use! Then, be sure to rub it around in circular motions for the exfoliating effect. It helps to rub off dry, dead skin cells and reveal fresh, new skin. The natural exfoliants are very gentle. It should be fine for even sensitive skin but be sure to test it on a small patch of skin first. If you have dull skin or itchy skin, it is the right body wash to gently shed the dead skin cells. I find that it helps smooth dry rough patches and helps prevent uneven skin tone.

Weekly exfoliation can help smooth skin, even skin tone, and reduce dry patches. Since this is a gentle exfoliating body wash and I tend to have dry, flaky skin, I find daily use is perfect for me. I use it over my entire body to remove dead cells and reveal radiant skin. This gentle cleanser provides just the right amount of gentle exfoliation. Then I after I dry off, I apply some natural moisturizer body lotion to help nourish and protect my soft, new skin’s surface.

I have had a few questions about using this on your face. Yes, you can use this bubble scrub recipe for a gentle soapy face scrub. However, I would suggest making a separate batch for your face so you can substitute Tea Tree and Frankincense essential oils for the citrus essential oils in the DIY body wash. Tea tree essential oil and frankincense essential oil are both great for your face and help with fight acne and wrinkles!
