The holidays are upon us! It feels like once Halloween is done, Thanksgiving rushes right up and then comes Hanukkah, Christmas, and New Years! I have started to get organized for the holidays in my house. We have lots of guests coming for the holidays and I have been clearing out the basement and clearing out the closets. Let me tell you, an organized home feels great! Here are 3 tips to clear the clutter and spend more and spend more quality time with your family.
How To Clear The Clutter
It seems that no matter how much I think I am staying on top of things, the clutter sneaks up on me. You know how it goes, you keep this box, you put away that manual, you stick those things in the closet for later and before you know it- your closets are full! Use these quick tips to help clear the clutter and get you more organized for the holidays.
Donate it!
Getting your closets cleared out is freeing! For me, it is kind of like clearing my mind of clutter too and I usually feel so relieved when I am done. Plus, it usually earns me a compliment from the hubby too and I take every one I can get! If you haven’t used an item 3 months consider if you really need it. There are a few seasonal exceptions to that rule but mostly if you haven’t used items, consider donating them to people who will. You don’t need that fourth scarf, “just in case”. You can part with those gifts you still haven’t used from 2 Christmases ago. It feels great to load up a bunch of things that other people really need and that are just taking up space in your house.
You can consider donating to Good Will, Salvation Army, or various other charities.
Recycle or Trash it!
Then there are the things that no one else wants but you keep holding onto anyway. Go ahead and get rid of them! Recycle or trash them. It will feel so good to have the space freed up and actually know what is in your closet. You know that container full of mateless socks- well if you haven’t used them for craft projects yet, you probably aren’t going to so dump them! You know all those manuals you have kept in case and never used, recycle them, and the product boxes too! Man, it feels good to get cleaned up!
Shred it!
Do you have a stack of papers sitting around that you don’t want to throw out or recycle because they have private information? Shred it! My husband is a teacher and he keeps all the old tests and says I can’t recycle them because that is private and he doesn’t want anyone getting their hands on a copy of the test. Really? Well, let me shred that for you mister! I have my own stack of papers that has been building up by my desk of contracts and bills and other private information and now I can shred that too! I really do love getting rid of clutter and cleaning up the mess of items we don’t even need. It makes actual cleaning way easier!
Top-Selling Shredder
I received a Fellowes top-selling 79Ci Shredder to test out and it is the ultimate shredding machine. I keep it right by my desk. Now, I can stay productive and drop stuff in there that I don’t want to worry with later. I enjoy the sleek design and the patented 100% Jam Proof System that eliminates paper jams because I have a busy schedule and I don’t want to waste time fooling with paper jams. The 6 gallon pull-out bin also makes me happy because I don’t have to empty very often and it stands up tall enough off the floor to be convenient to reach and look good without needing to sit on any furniture.
The heavy-duty cross-Cut blades can handle up to 16 sheets of paper per pass in addition to staples, paper clips, credit cards, junk mail and CDs! That is seriously powerful shredding! Because I have kids in the house, I have to know that it is safe. Therefore, I appreciate the Patented SafeSense® Technology which automatically stops shredding when hands touch the paper opening. You all know I am an eco nut too so I dig the Energy Savings System. It maximizes shredder energy efficiency 100% of the time – both in use and out of use with a standby and sleep mode. Want to find out more or buy it? Visit the Fellowes website for more information or buy it at Amazon.com and Office Superstores (suggested retail price of $239.99).
I hope you enjoyed my 3 tips to clear the clutter! Are you getting organized for the holidays yet? Do you want to share any other helpful solutions to productivity problems so working moms can spend time doing things they love?

This is a great way to be and get organized! I need to get things here a bit more organized, for sure! I miss my shredder, I had that same exact one for YEARS but it broke!

I can’t believe I’ve never had a paper shredder. I have papers stacked a mile high in my closet and shredding them would be easier than ripping them individually.

OOh, I’d love a shredder! Currently my husband takes ours to work with him.
I find that if my closets are clean, my brain is calm – how strange is that?
My place to try to declutter in the next couple of weeks is our attic. We’ll definitely be taking in donations to charity shops, as well as taking old bedding and towels to a woman who makes them into dog beds for shelters around our country. We spent a good part of today cleaning up, and I hope that we can continue on this wave during the week and into next weekend.
Thanks for the encouragement!

We love our paper shredder too! It is such a blessing during the new year when old documents are no longer needed!

Just in time before New Year’s! There’s nothing like putting away old things to make room for the new. That shredder would come in handy so that private documents suddenly don’t get into the wrong hands. I bet I’ll enjoy shredding some old resumes, too. Thanks for the post!
