DIY Melted Snowman Ornament Craft

Making a Melted Snowman Ornament is a fun, creative, and meaningful holiday craft! The ornament can represent the whimsical side of winter and the fleeting nature of snow days. It’s a playful reminder of melting snowmen after a fun day outdoors. You can customize the ornament with unique accessories like tiny scarves, hats, or buttons. This makes it a special addition to your holiday decorations, showcasing your creativity.

It’s a unique memento of the holiday season. Add the year or names to the back of the ornament to turn it into a cherished family keepsake.

  • high temp. hot glue gun
  • 2-3 hot glue sticks
  • black beads
  • orange craft stick
  • ribbon small buttons
  • twine for hanger
  • ribbon for scarf snowman accessories
  • aluminum foil (or parchment paper)

Use whatever items you have on hand to put together your melted snowman Christmas ornament. A small piece of orange pipe cleaner or craft foam makes a great carrot nose as well.  Black or brown buttons, beads, or even peppercorns or whole cloves can be used for eyes.

Directions For How To Make A Melted Snowman Ornament:

Gather all your supplies before beginning your homemade Christmas ornaments.

The first thing to do is spread out a large sheet of parchment paper or aluminum foil.

Let your glue gun become fully heated before beginning.

Cut 3” lengths of twine, ribbon (or you can also use fishing line) and fold in half to make the ornament hanger with a bit of hot glue.

“Draw” a thick outline of your snowman with hot glue on parchment paper (or foil).

Begin quickly filling in the outline with a thick layer of glue , keeping the nozzle of your gun in the glue to reduce the amount of air bubbles.

While glue is still wet drop the small pieces that will be the facial facial features into it. Tap gently into the glue so they are secure- use a craft stick or toothpick to keep your fingers safe!

To make a scarf for your melted snowman ornament- loop and knot your ribbon, press into glue firmly.

Let glue fully harden to the touch before moving, then pop into freezer for about an hour- your snowman should release easily from the foil. If it is still sticking put it back in the freezer for a little longer. Then peal the melted snowman glue blob off and hang on your Christmas tree!

These melting snowman ornaments are so cute!!! At first I thought the ornament was made from ice and thought… “The challenge would be to keep the snowman not melting indoors”
Ok… dried hot glue is a much better crafting idea!
