Ok I admit it, the day after Thanksgiving I let the Christmas decor come out and take over- wreaths, ornaments, runners, etc. I just love Christmas decor and every year I inevitably add something new including a few handmade items. This year I thought some fun snowman candle jars would be festive for the guest bathroom. I also plan to make a few more of these snowman jar crafts to light up my walk on Christmas Eve. I happen to love a kid-friendly craft project and my son was able to do everything but the hot glue. That makes this holiday craft a winner! We are planning to make one Snowman Candle Mason Jar for each of his teachers and grandma too as DIY gifts. Gather up your craft materials, grab a mug of cocoa, and let’s get to crafting some snowman candle holders!

This Snowman Jar Craft Makes A Festive Candle Holder

Here’s a simple and fun way to create a DIY Snowman Candle Holder using a jar! This craft is perfect for winter decorations, gifting, or a cozy, festive vibe at home. Gather your craft supplies and a LED tealight candle for each jar you plan to make. You may even want to experiment with different jar sizes to create a snowman family!

Snowman Candle Holder Craft Supplies:

  • smooth empty jar (pint size works well)
  • epsom salt
  • ribbon
  • black buttons
  • orange chenille stem or pipe cleaner
  • school glue or Modge Podge
  • foam brush
  • hot glue gun and hot glue sticks

You will also need a candle to place inside if you wish to light it up. I used a small tea light candle. However, you could also use a battery operated votive candle. You could even insert candle wicks and pour melted wax inside for a DIY candle. All of these materials should be easy to find at your local craft store during the holiday season.

Snowman Candle Craft Step-By-Step Directions:

Grab a glass jar, you don’t want an actual mason jar here because you want a smooth surface for your DIY snowman candle holder. A spaghetti jar or pickle jar is perfect for this project. Or you can get some plain jars at your the Dollar Tree.

Paint jar from neck down with a thick coat of glue.

paint the jar with glue

Immediately roll jar in epsom salt to coat, add a bit more glue and salt if need to coat fully.

The next step is to allow glue to dry for 1-2 hours.

Wrap ribbon around base of jar for a scarf, tie it off, and secure in several places with hot glue.

Cut off a 2” length of chenille stem, bend in half, twist and bend one end perpendicular so you have a larger surface to glue down and keep it secure. Attach with a generous amount of hot glue for the carrot nose.

Hot glue buttons for eyes and a mouth on your snowman to finish him off.

Optional: For a longer lasting finish you can seal the epsom salt by giving each snowman a coat of spray polyurethane. You can get that at your local home improvement store, craft store, or use my affiliate Amazon link.

Drop in a tea light and he is ready to light up your mantle, walkway, or anywhere else that can use a touch of winter cheer. This DIY snowman candle holder will add a festive winter touch to any space!

What an adorable and easy holiday craft. What child would not want to make and enjoy one of these snowman jars this holiday season? Also, I love the idea of using a flameless candle for safety. Thanks!
