It’s time to start thinking about planning some summer fun for your family. What better way to enjoy some quality time together and the warm weather than to plan a fun summer vacation? But where should you go? There are so many places you could go for fun summer vacations in the USA! We are lucky to live in a country full of varied natural splendor, historical landmarks, and cities packed with entertainment options. These USA summer vacations will all be crowd pleasers that will leave you with treasured memories.
Ideas For Summer Vacations In The USA
Choosing the perfect summer vacations in the USA depends on a few factors: how long you can be gone, your budget, and where you’re located. If you can only get away for a few days, a road trip might be the way to go. A road trip is also great if you have an extended period of time and want to do some real exploring. If you have the more standard 4-7 days and can afford to book flights for the family, there are a variety of adventures waiting for you as well. Let’s get started some fun United States vacation ideas.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
If you love being near the water but want a vacation that offers more than just laying on the beach, Myrtle Beach is the place to go. The Sea Mist Resort offers more than just an oceanfront view. Your kids can enjoy their waterpark, mini golf, and on-site cinema. They offer monthly specials and packages, and you can book a room or an entire cottage.
You’ll also find the Family Kingdom amusement park in Myrtle Beach with roller coasters, arcade games, waterparks, and more. You’ll be so busy enjoying all the fun attractions and entertainment options, you may forget to visit the beach! Just kidding. Who could forget the beach? This is no doubt one of my favorite summer vacations in the USA.
Gatlinburg, Tennessee
A fun outdoor adventure is waiting for your family in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. With over 900 miles of hiking trails, biking, whitewater rafting, and horseback riding, there won’t be any time to be bored. You can go rustic and cheap by camping in the Smoky Mountains or live it up a little at the Wilderness at the Smokies water park resort. We used to visit the Great Smokies every summer and it is truly one of the spectacular summer vacations in the USA.
Gatlinburg also offers an Arts and Crafts community where you can shop for handmade good from local artisans. And be sure to visit Ripley’s Mirror Maze, a fun house of over 100 mirrors. Can you find your way out?
St. Louis, Missouri
You’re probably wondering what there is for your family to do in St. Louis. The answer is, plenty! Visit the City Museum for a trip down their 10-story slide (if you’re brave enough!), a spin on the 30-foot high Ferris wheel, and a jump in their huge ball pit.
Purina Farms is the place for your dog loving family, where you can see dog agility shows and visit the animal barnyards. And the Saint Louis Art Museum offers plenty of art activities for kids as well as free guided tours.
Winter Park, Colorado
Yes, I know you’re planning a summer trip and Colorado is where you’d expect to find ski resorts, but what do you think you can do on those mountains when there’s no snow? Tubing of course! Grab your tube and head down the mountains at Snow Mountain Ranch. When you’re done, you can enjoy mini golf, swimming, or test your skills on the climbing walls.
You can also keep busy on your summer vacation with hiking, biking, rafting, or zip lining down Colorado’s longest alpine slide.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore, Michigan
Sleeping Bear Dunes offers miles and miles of beautiful, freshwater beaches as well as forests filled with wildlife, miles upon miles of hiking trails, biking trails, and camping. You will absolutely love the weather in the summer which offers a much cooler alternative to the the southern part of the USA. Go boating, relax on a beach, go dune climbing! You’ll love this natural beauty.

We are headed to Gatlinburg in June for vacation. We are staying in a cabin in Wears Valley. We love the smoky mountains.
