Nowadays, CBD (cannabidiol) infused products are becoming a common way many people all around the world encourage wellness. Whether it is a pain, anxiety, dry skin or sleep issues, CBD is considered an effective yet natural solution to help address various mental and physical complaints. CBD forms of use include edibles, tinctures, topical applications and vaping juice. Each product not only provides different types of CBD concentrations but also requires a specific method of intake. Here we’ll review the four common ways of taking CBD oil. We will also include how it is made and the main types of CBD.

Types of CBD

How is CBD Oil Made? Manufacturers use various methods of distillation to extract CBD oil from the cannabis plant. Typically, it comes from industrial hemp because it usually has a higher CBD content. Then the cannabidiol extract is often added to carrier oils like olive, grapeseed or MCT oil.

When shopping for CBD, you typically will find three main types of CBD oil:

Full-spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD oil contains not only cannabidiol but also other all-natural elements from cannabis. This includes terpenes, flavonoids and other minor cannabinoids like CBN (cannabinol) and CBG (cannabigerol). It may also include about 0.2% THC – a psychoactive marijuana compound. This full spectrum CBD is credited with the entourage effect where it synergistically offers greater effects.

Broad-spectrum CBD

Broad-spectrum CBD oil contains all the compounds found in full-spectrum oil excepted trace amounts of THC. It still contains other cannabinoids and terpenes, offering some of the entourage effect benefits without the THC.

CBD isolate

CBD isolate is pure CBD oil that goes through further refining and contains no other cannabis plant compounds.

Common CBD Forms Of Use

cbd forms of use

There are several different types of cbd products. Some full spectrum products are more beneficial for chronic pain while other hemp-derived cbd products are more valued for their ability to ease anxiety and help with relaxation. The best broad spectrum products will depend on which potential benefits you are seeking as well as personal preference.

CBD Edibles

Edibles are a great method to incorporate CBD into your daily regimen. Primarily, they allow you to easily and quickly get your daily dose of CBD by eating it. Tasty infused products examples include a gummy or chocolate or a tasteless capsule or pill. Such products as CBD gummies are also typically pre-measured, offering users simple CBD treatment without special measurement or dosage calculation.

However, when consuming CBD orally, the chemical compounds need to pass through the liver. This can take 30 minutes to 2 hours and reduce bioavailability. This means that only a small amount of the substance (13-19%) makes it through to the bloodstream to be used by your body. At the same time, a prolonged digestion process also means that taking CBD oil-based capsules provides slow-acting effects. This can be beneficial for people that need to experience a consistent supply of cannabidiol.

CBD Tinctures

CBD tinctures are one of the most common CBD products on the market today. Produced in a wide variety of concentrations, CBD oil tinctures are a popular delivery method. There is a perfect option for everyone, from those who are just starting their CBD journey to veterans of this beneficial ingredient. They are easily available for all three types of CBD I mentioned above. Tinctures are great for testing the dose that’s best for your body and your needs.

Although some users prefer to take CBD oil in capsules orally, the tincture is known to be most effective when not swallowing the liquid right away. All you need to do is fill the dropper, place it under your tongue and hold the oil for 30 to 60 seconds. The unique combination of holding the oil under the tongue and swallowing it (sublingual intake) means the product is absorbed through capillaries in your mouth and stomach, making it more effective by improving its bioavailability (up to 35%). At the same time, if you would like to take your daily dose discreetly, then putting the pipette in your mouth may not be the best option for you.

Since CBD tinctures and oils are usually administered orally or sublingually, some products are also sweetened or infused with different natural flavors for a more enjoyable experience. CBD oil drops can also be mixed into your daily beverages like coffee, teas or smoothies or added to meals like yogurt, oatmeal and more.

CBD Topicals

On occasion, CBD oil is formulated in various beauty products and even cosmetics. Common CBD topicals usually include creams, ointments and lotions. What is the difference between such products? Lotions contain a small amount of oil, ointments contain a larger amount of oil, while creams are somewhere in between.

CBD-infused creams are used in problem areas. For example, rub on joint pain or swelling to soothe and heal the affected area. CBD might also be used as an anti-inflammatory agent. Applying the cream or lotion to the skin so that it can soak in is a good way to reduce swelling and get rid of the pain.

While rubbing CBD into the skin can help to provide targeted relief, it stays localised, which means that CBD enters local tissue and small blood vessels only. Also, since CBD does not actually enter the bloodstream, it is difficult to determine how much of the compound is absorbed by the body.

CBD Vapes

If you would like fast relief from CBD, then CBD vaping is a perfect option for you. Designed to be vaporized and then inhaled, CBD vape oil delivers the active compounds directly to the lungs, where CBD is quickly absorbed into the body. This method allows users to experience the positive effects of CBD almost instantly and delivers high bioavailability (up to 56%) as CBD bypass the digestive tract.

CBD vape oils also come in a wide variety of flavors that highlight the natural terpenes of the hemp plant or dessert-inspired and fruit aromas. You can also find various options of a disposable and refillable CBD vape pen, pre-filled pods and cartridges. Although vaping can be advantageous for it fast effect, it is essential to remember about potentially harmful effects on the lungs caused by prolonged vaping.

Conclusion

There are many different CBD products available, each offering unique benefits depending on individual preferences and specific needs. Full-spectrum CBD oil, which includes a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes, may provide a broader range of health benefits due to the entourage effect, while broad-spectrum CBD oil offers the same benefits without the presence of THC. For those seeking the purest form of CBD, isolate oil is the best way to go, as it contains 99% CBD without any psychoactive effects. The use of CBD, whether in oils, tinctures, edibles, or topicals, can interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, promoting overall well-being.

Additionally, essential oils can complement CBD products, providing further support for health and wellness. Clinical trials have shown promising results, though more research is needed, especially regarding the impact of CBD on those taking blood thinners or other medications. According to the World Health Organization, CBD is generally well-tolerated and free from serious adverse effects, making it a good option for many seeking natural alternatives. However, it’s important to consider the legal status of CBD, as certain types may be subject to the Controlled Substances Act depending on the level of THC they contain.

I hope this article answered your questions about the three types of CBD and provided you with pros and cons for the various CBD forms of use. Let me know if you have questions! Have you tried CBD and have you found it helpful? Which CBD form or use is your favorite?
