The Housing Market
The housing market in Tennessee is an interesting one, as the state itself is an amazing mixture of different possibilities! The state is blessed with phenomenal natural beauty, as well as being steeped in history, and it’s got several major metropolitan centers! Four of the major cities in Tennessee to consider are Nashville (AKA Music City), Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Memphis (home to Elvis Presley’s Graceland).
Tennessee real estate comes in all shapes and sizes! You can find incredible historical houses surrounded by nature, not far from the middle of a city! There are plenty of affordable houses across the state. The low housing costs makes it a potential goldmine for property! From low priced homes to fancy mansions that cost millions, there is something for everyone.
The Cost of Living
If you make the move to Tennessee, you could be in for an amazing surprise! Tennessee came in at number 6 on the list of the top ten most affordable states in the US. The low cost of living is a major draw for anyone who wants to keep a few extra dollars in their back pocket!
Part of the reason for Tennessee’s affordable lifestyle is the fact that Tennessee is one of only 8 states that charges no state income taxes! That means your paycheck will stretch a little further every month, and each small difference adds up quickly! However, do keep in mind that we have a high sales tax here in Tennessee.
The Job Market
An analysis of the unemployment rate, labor-force participation rate, job growth, labor force growth, and wage growth in Nashville, Tennessee, showed that the city boasts the second best job market out of any city in the US!
Nashville has been widely credited for its upward mobility. If you decide to live here, you could find your career flourishing quickly. There’s no need to explain why that’s great news for your family! Maybe Nashville is where you need to be to allow your career to grow. It also seems that they are hiring in almost every sector with good workers in high demand.
The Education System
The education is a bit of a mixed bag with pros and cons to living in Tennessee. While the public schools in Tennessee are only slightly higher than the national average, earning a C rating from EdWeekly.org, they are still higher than many other southern states. In addition, there are many of prestigious private schools to choose from. For example, Montgomery Bell Academy, where my husband teaches.
Tennessee’s Department of Education prides itself on the ability to set students on a path to success. The state offers several amazing college options for your kids! The University of Tennessee in Knoxville is a historic institution with over 225 years of teaching history and it comes with a very affordable in-state tuition. Tennessee is also home to Vanderbilt University, in Nashville, which has been consistently ranked as one of the top colleges in the US.
The state of Tennessee also offers the Hope Scholarship to help residents of Tennessee be able to afford to continue on from high school into higher education. That means there are plenty of options for your kids to excel in school and progress to a top level college. Isn’t that every parent’s dream?
The Weather
I love the moderate climate here in Tennessee. I think it is one of the best places to live because you get all four seasons without anything too extreme to deal with. The growing season is also quite impressive and I always think of Tennessee as one of the greenest states with trees and grass everywhere. It is full of natural beauty and home to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is the most visited national park! Tennessee residents tend to take full advantage of the plethora of outdoor activities available to them.
Conclusion
Tennessee is The Volunteer State and I think we have so many good people- hard working folks that volunteer to help each other out in time of need. We also know a little bit about Southern charm and hospitality so there are plenty of friendly people. I just love my Nashville neighborhood.
