Show Your Love To Your Kids This Valentine’s Day:
OK, so hopefully you show your kids you love them everyday! But, Valentine’s Day is a great time to show your love in extra special ways. You know, the kind of ways that you wish you got to do every day but you just don’t always have time to do. Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating those we love by doing something special to show our love. For couples, it seems to get lost in romance and I think that is because that is something we tend to neglect when we get busy in our routines. For families, it should be about that special time together. Nothing shows love like special time together doing something fun and enjoying the moment.
5 Valentine’s Day Things To Do With Kids:
1. Make a Special Meal or Treat Together
Kids love to help in the kitchen if you give them the opportunity and lighten up so that you don’t expect everything to turn out perfect. Cooking or baking together can be a lot of fun and it teaches them important skills. You can get all kinds of ideas for special Valentine’s Day themed food and whip some heart shaped cinnamon rolls together or make heart shaped popcorn snacks. As long as you have fun making it together, you can’t go wrong.
2. Have a Sit Down Tea Party or Afternoon Snack
Kids love a sit down meal all together- especially if it involves special treats, maybe even ones they baked with you! Whether you call it a tea party or afternoon snack time- you can make it extra special by serving it as a picnic on the porch or under a fort. At the table works fine too and you can make it an extra special event by having them dress it up a bit with name cards, fancy napkins, and some Valentine’s Day decorations.
3. Do A Valentine’s Day Craft Together
Now, don’t just give them a craft and run. Remember this is a special day and spending that special time doing the craft with them will make it twice as special. You could try a making a Valentine’s Day centerpiece or Valentine Garland. Whatever Valentine’s Day craft you choose, you can use it decorate the house or table and comment on what a good job they did.
4. Enjoy A Special Activity Together
I would say get outside and make some active memories if it is all possible- hike in the woods, build a snowman, fly a kite, or have a family game of basketball. If you can’t get outdoors because the weather is just too uninviting, you may want to play cards or a board game, flip through photo albums together, make a scrapbook, or watch a family movie together.
5. Exchange Gifts
Exchanging gifts is a tradition that shows each other that we have taken the time to consider exactly what the other person will enjoy and that we have made it or gotten it for them. You can help let your child choose a Valentine’s Day card at the store or you can let them make a card or a gift. When giving your child a card, consider that what you write tells them what you love and value about them. If you just put “Love, Mom” you are losing the chance to tell them that you love the happiness they bring into your life, their sweet and thoughtful nature, their ability to work hard and accomplish goals. They really notice what you notice about them. So go ahead and make them feel special and loved today for all the parts of them that make them unique. You may also want to give them a small gift to brighten their day and remind them of the special time you spent together when they look at it all year long.
