Avocado Face Mask Benefits
Avocado face masks offer several benefits for the skin due to the fruit’s natural properties. Here are some key benefits:
- Moisturizing: Avocado is rich in healthy fats, which can moisturize the skin and help maintain its natural moisture barrier.
- Antioxidant properties: Avocado contains antioxidants like vitamins C and E, which can help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals.
- Anti-inflammatory: The natural oils in avocado can help reduce inflammation, making it beneficial for skin conditions like acne and eczema.
- Anti-aging: The antioxidants and vitamins in avocado can help reduce the signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles. As a UCLA study points out, “Eating an avocado daily increases elasticity and firmness in skin.”
- Skin repair: Avocado contains vitamins and minerals that can help promote skin repair and regeneration.
- Gentle exfoliation: The texture of avocado can provide gentle exfoliation, removing dead skin cells and promoting a brighter complexion.
DIY Avocado Face Mask
The basis for making your own face mask is one ripe avocado. You can also add a few other simple ingredients for added benefits.
Mask Ingredients:
- 1/2 organic avocado (save the pit so you can grow avocado from seed)
- 1 tbsp organic honey (raw honey is best when available)
- 1 tbsp organic coconut oil
- splash of fresh lemon juice
About these healthy ingredients:
Avocado – The avocado is great for soothing the skin and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Honey – The honey not only is a great moisturizer, it also is full of antioxidants and will draw out impurities in your skin leaving it clean and fresh.
Coconut Oil – The coconut oil also moisturizes the skin while it cleans. Like the avocado, the coconut oil soothes the skin. In addition, coconut oil has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that help skin in many ways.
Lemon Juice- Lemon juice is a natural astringent helping cleanse skin of excess oil. Just a splash, about a teaspoon is good enough. It is also full of vitamin C which provides antioxidants to your skin helping reduce skin damage.
How To Make Homemade Avocado Facial Mask
Remove the pit from the avocado and spoon the half of avocado into a small bowl. Use a fork to mash the avocado until it is smooth. You could also use a small food processor.
Add a tablespoon of honey to the mashed avocado and blend well.
Add the coconut oil and a splash of lemon juice. Continue blending until smooth.
Transfer the avocado mixture into a small bowl or jar. You will not use all of the mask as the fruit of the avocado goes a long way. Store avocado face mask in the fridge for up to 3 days.
How To Use Face Mask:
Always patch test a small amount of any new face mask on your skin before applying it to your face to check for any adverse reactions. If you notice any irritation or discomfort, discontinue use.
Apply the avocado mask to your face and allow it to set for 10-20 minutes. It should be a nice, even layer. A thick layer will be heavy and uncomfortable and thin layer will dry too fast. I like the nice even coverage of a medium layer.
When the 10-20 minutes has passed, apply a nice warm wet wash cloth for approximately 30 seconds. This helps your pores to open and the mask to fully work. After the 30 seconds, use the cloth to remove the mask. Rinse off with warm water. You can use this avocado facial recipe once a week along with your regular skin care routine. This hydrating mask works best when used 1-2 times a week to help moisturize and nourish the skin. My skin feels so soft and smooth and hydrated afterwards!

I have to admit, my skin routine is almost non-existent with 5 littles to get ready every day. This looks amazing though and I will have to try it the next time I have a break, especially after reading about the benefits of an avocado face mask. I have heard much about the natural wrinkle-fighting power of the avocado so I really am excited to try this out.
