What is on the mind of most parents this time of year? My friends all want to know if my kids are doing camps and which ones. Well, I am very excited to tell you that both my kids are going to Camp Invention this summer. I have been selected as an ambassador for Camp Invention. It is the nation’s premier summer enrichment day camp that focuses on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). I am so pleased to share Camp Invention with you because I love science. I also love that Camp Invention takes science to a new level of application that engages children. They have the opportunity to indulge their desire to learn and do and create. Summer Day Camp For Kids That Focuses On Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)
Turns out that Camp Invention is celebrating their 25th anniversary! I told my daughter about the camp and she was totally excited when I explained that it is a day camp that focuses on engineering and inventing! I really think this camp will be so fun and inspiring for both my son and my daughter. They love to see how stuff works and put things together. This is the perfect summer program for curious kids.
I love the idea that they get exposure to STEM concepts. I honestly didn’t know much about what an engineer was when I was growing up. Camp Invention is the only camp that is backed by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and theNational Inventors Hall of Fame. Each year the Camp Invention curriculum is crafted by world-renowned inventors and the most influential people in STEM. Camp Invention’s mission is to inspire young minds to think, make and create, enriching their education and shaping their future.
Camp Invention Curriculum Encourages Children To Explore Their Inventiveness And Problem Solving Skills
This year’s Camp Invention curriculum is called Illuminate. It will encourage children to explore their inventiveness and problem solving sills. It will provide them with experiences that will harness their curiosity, inspire creativity and evoke a sense of accomplishment. Your kids will get to experience five energetic and fun-filled modules:
- Inducted – This module will introduce your child to innovation role models. It gives them a first-hand account of what it takes to make their mark on the world and get into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
- Design Studio – Children will be empowered to explore their creativity in the innovation laboratory. They can design their own invention, investigate circuits or take on a nature-inspired design challenge.
- I Can Invent: Next Level Gamers – No matter if your child is an avid video gamer or plays occasionally, they will love the opportunity to help the Gaming Labs come up with the next must-have video game called MazeWorld.
- KartWheel – Future engineers will love the opportunity to create a freestyle race kart. They will want to design it to withstand water and navigate the ultimate wet terrain obstacle course. The designing is done outdoors and gives them the opportunity to get some physical exercise too.
- M.O.V.E.: Motion, obstacles, variety, excitement – Participants will use their imagination as they reach for the stars and get in motion, overcome obstacles, make variations to classic games and build excitement during this activity!

New This Year: Camp Invention Take-Home Project and Contest
Camp Invention will introduce a new take-home project this year with an optional contest aspect. Camp Invention participants will have the opportunity to take part in a special take-home project. This will keep Campers motivated to innovate throughout the summer.
Campers can work closely with their parents to come up with ways to conserve energy. They can also share their ideas on Camp Invention social media properties. The winning idea will be awarded a spot in the 2016 Innovation Echo Showcase at the Smithsonian next May in Washington, D.C.! Camp Invention Reviews
Let me start by saying that for me summers are special time to spend with my kids. I only wanted to send them to summer camps if I they met two criteria- my kid would have a lot of fun and learn a lot. Camp Invention was the first to meet those for me and both of my children ended up attending Camp Invention. My kids are two years apart (10 and 8 years old). They ended up in different classes with STEM concepts more geared to their age groups. Camp Invention was a big hit with both of them.
They worked on various projects such as circuit boards. There was a ping pong ball challenge where they studied physics. Plus, they all got to design carts in groups to race on the last day.
I loved it too! As parents, we got to see the projects they were working on. I loved hearing them tell about all the fun interactive projects they were working on. They also had fun meeting new kids and interacting socially. The Camp Invention teachers were all super nice and enthusiastic and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the experience.
Update Camp Invention 2023:
The day camp for grades K-6 is still training young innovators. The camp invention curriculum is increasing exposure to STEM through hands-on activities and real-world challenges. This hands-on exploration of science and entrepreneurship skills is one of the best weeklong summer experience programs you could hope for. My kids are now a senior and a sophomore in high school. One wants to be a chemical engineer and the other wants to study computer science. So I would say that Camp Invention definitely had some impact on them! The hands-on stem activities exposed them to scientific principles and I think it has helped make them enthusiastic high school students. It was a confidence-boosting program for both of my children. I give the nationally acclaimed Camp Invention program two big thumbs up.

My oldest son would love any one of these camps, especially the “I can Invent – the Next Level Gamer” camp. He is always asking me if he can take apart our old electronics and make a robot. Now he can do it at this camp. How Cool.

There are 3 camp locations around my area – one just 2 miles from my house. My son would excel with this type of program, but as a divorced mom – it’s not in the budget for this summer – but I’ll start saving for next summer!
