A Cheerio Bird Feeder is the perfect activity to do with your children. Lovers of feathered friends young and old will enjoy this quick activity! We have quite a few birds in our yard and like to help them out in the cold weather. This hanging bird feeder very simple to put together and takes only minutes. You probably have what you need already in your house. The feeder can be used over and over again too. A Cheerio Bird Feeder is also a great fine motor skill activity. Working with small objects helps young children develop small muscle movements which they will need later to help them write. So grab your kiddo and some Cheerios and try your hand at this simple hanging bird feeder craft for kids!

How To Make A Cheerio Bird Feeder

After collecting your Cheerios, rope, and pipe cleaners (you could use flower wire or a coat hanger if you don’t have pipe cleaners), start stringing your Cheerios onto your piper cleaner. Don’t be surprised if this turns into snack time too! It IS a tasty treat for the kiddos as well. I don’t know about you but my kids love to snack. At least this is a healthy option, right?

When your pipe cleaner is full, twist the 2 ends together so the Cheerios won’t fall off and form into whatever shape you would like. We chose to make a circle and a heart hanging bird feeder! You could also form into a square or even an oval. Let your child tell you his or her favorite shape! This Cheerio Bird Feeder craft is filled with various little learning activities. It provides a great time to learn about birds.

My toddlers loved this simple bird feeder- making it, hanging it, and watching the birds eat it!
