Child Hunger In The United States: Kid President Hosts Town Hall

I attended the Nashville “Town Hall” hosted by Kid President at the Nashville Second Harvest Food Bank. I am excited to share that experience with your here. This post as well as the “Town Hall” itself are part of a “Child Hunger Ends Here” partnership with ConAgra. The purpose is to raise awareness of child hunger right here in the United States and take action to stop child hunger.

First, I’d like to start with an inspirational quote.

Quote About Hunger

“I just felt compelled to do it. It’s easy to say, `I can’t do it. I can’t solve world hunger.’ Well, no I can’t, but I can make sure Daiana Morales has clothes for school and I can make sure there’s food in the refrigerator.” -Kathryn Kelly, author

I love this quote because it is easy to be overwhelmed by a large problem and no nothing. This quote about hunger reminds us that we can just start. We don’t have to fix it all. We can just fix it for who we can trust that will make a difference to a least that person! What we do matters. Every child hunger donation matters.

Kid President and his brother-in-law and Kid President co-creator, Brad Montague, believe that kids should focus on being more awesome. They should not have to worry about their next meal. So they doing something to make sure child hunger ends here.

Child Hunger In The USA

Child Hunger is a serious problem right here in the U.S.A. Brace yourself for these child hunger statistics in America. More than one in five children and more than one in four Latino children in the U.S. may not know where their next meal is coming from. That’s more than 15 million children living in fear of hunger. Are you getting goosebumps just thinking about it? I know! It seriously breaks my heart to think of hungry kids.

Kid President just hosted a “Town Hall” right here in Tennessee to address the issue of child hunger and how it affects EVERY county in the U.S.  They talked about how they learned that we can all make this world a better place and how exciting it was for them to be in a room full of volunteers, “living with their eyes wide open and seeing that they can make a change.”

High Five Kid President

Before the town hall, ConAgra partnered with Kid President to help bring this important child hunger issue to America’s forefront and inspire “kid citizens” and adults to take action to help child hunger end here.   Kid President, aka Robby Novak, is a YouTube sensation so naturally he made a video  to help bring awareness to child hunger and ConAgra made meal donations to Feeding America for each view or share.  They surpassed the  up to 100,000 meals goal in less than one week!

So at the Kid President Town Hall, ConAgra presented a check to Feeding America based on the number of meals triggered from Kid President’s video views and shares- 100,000 meals.   That was pretty inspiring and goes to show how a little can add up to a lot!

100,000 Meals donated

After Kid President addressed the crowd, he jumped right in and joined volunteers in a food packing activity for children in the local community where they will be sent home with food in their backpacks. We packed up 2,205 bags to give to local kids- very cool!

You Can Help With The Child Hunger Ends Here Program Too!

But if you missed the Town Hall event, don’t worry, that is not the only way to help.  ConAgra aims to empower a community of people to help change the realities of hunger one meal at a time with a goal to donate one million meals to food insecure kids in 2016 through the Child Hunger Ends Here program.

Red Pushpin child hunger ends here

Everyone can easily participate in the Child Hunger Ends Here program. Just go to your favorite retailer and look for the red pushpin and code on specially marked packages of ConAgra’s food. Brands like Marie Callender’s, Hunt’s, PAM’s, Orville Redenbacher’s, and Healthy Choices’ will all have the code. For each eight-digit code entered from January 2016 through January 2017, ConAgra will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to Feeding America, up to one million meals!

So let’s get going people!  Let’s each do what we can to make sure child hunger ends here!

Such a wonderful cause! I’ll bet the kids got a thrill of seeing Kid President in person. What a wonderful way to inspire altruism in children.
