The Power Of Positive Affirmations For Kids

I was first introduced to the concept of positive affirmations when I was a teenager. I was telling a friend of mine about a problem I was having and she gave me a book off her bookshelf called “You Can Heal Your Life”, by Louise Hay. It really opened my mind to the power of positive affirmations. As Mind Tools puts it, “Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes.” Now, just imagine the power of positive affirmations for kids when they are so much more open to change and actively trying to identify who they are.

That is why I love the concept of Connie Bowen’s book, “I Believe In Me.” It is children’s affirmation book that shares positive truths about each of us next to beautiful drawings that help open your mind and explore the meaning of the words. I was provided with a copy of the book for review. Here is my affiliate Amzaon link to her books.

The “I Believe In Me” Picture Book Shares Positive Affirmations For Kids

There are 27 positive affirmations for kids in the “I Believe In Me” children’s book by Connie Bowen. Each one has an inspiring illustration to go with it that gives you time to really take in the affirmation while you look at the drawings. There are also a few empty pages at the end with a template for children to fill with their own affirmations and drawings.

Example Affirmations For Kids

My son and I read the book together. He read a few affirmations and then I read a few affirmations. We discussed what we had read as we went.

“I am wonderfully creative,” he read.

“Yes, you are.” I remarked. “You are always making up really intricate stories about your LEGOs and building really neat things.”

“I learn and discover new things every day,” I read. “I sure do. It is always good to learn new things.”

“I am thankful,” my son said. “Yes, look how the tiger is thankful for his fish and the gorilla is thankful for his banana and grapes,” my son pointed out.

I am thankful

Here are some more that make excellent daily affirmations.

  1. I am loved.
  2. I am brave and strong.
  3. I am kind and caring.
  4. I am smart and capable.
  5. I believe in myself.
  6. I can do hard things.
  7. I am unique and special.
  8. I am a good friend.
  9. I am important.
  10. I am responsible and make good choices.
  11. I am grateful for all the good things in my life.
  12. I am helpful and make a difference.
  13. I am creative and imaginative.
  14. I am loved for who I am.
  15. I am a good learner and I can learn new things.

Positive Affirmations With Illustrations

So you can see how each of the positive affirmations for kids is a great conversation starter. This is a nice calming, centering book to read. Even for me, as I read all the affirmations with him they reminded me of the core of things that matter and outside distractions fell away.

As Michael A. Maday put it in the Editor’s Note, “What a great gift it is to give children an understanding of the power of words and thoughts.” We also loved the illustrations. My son’s favorite was for, “I am forgiving.”

I am forgiving

My favorite was for, “I am blessed.”

I am blessed

It is easy to see why “I Believe in Me,” was an Athena Award winner for Mentoring Excellence. It was also named among, “50 Inspiring Children’s Books with a Positive Message” by Positively Positive.

I think that you and your children will really enjoy this book with positive affirmations for kids. You can get your copy at your local book seller or through the Amazon link above. Look for her other titles too like, “I Create My World”. More on that book below.

Daily Affirmations For Children In Inspiring Book Format

I Focus on What I Love

I liked the idea of a book of affirmations for children because it is great to start filling their heads with empowering thoughts that will build their self-esteem.  Connie Bowen has chosen great affirmations for children such as, “I am blessed with my own special talents and gifts,” and paired each affirmation with unique, colorful illustrations.  Your child is sure to enjoy each drawing all by itself as each is packed with many things to look at.  The author has made it even more interactive by placing an item from each illustration above the affirmation so your child can have fun hunting for the the hidden objects.

Are you wondering what affirmations are and why they are important? Well as Louise Hay says, “Every thought you think and every word you speak is an affirmation. All of our self-talk, our internal dialogue, is a stream of affirmations. You’re using affirmations every moment whether you know it or not. You’re affirming and creating your life experiences with every word and thought.” So a book of positive affirmations for children helps them to think good thoughts. It trains their mind to empower themselves, to believe in themselves, and to select good habits.

I Create My World: The Power of Thought to Shape Our Lives

Even my eight year old, who is on the slightly older side for this book, loved it.  She enjoyed hunting for the hidden pictures and pointing out interesting things about each painting.  I enjoyed reading my six and eight year old the affirmations. We all enjoyed discussing with them what they though they meant and the affirmations pertained to them.  They both enjoyed the ending page of the book that has added discussion points and hidden objects to find.  My kids love to read and be read to and I love that I Create My World shares positive lessons and ideas with every reading.

The book of affirmations for children, I Create My World,  is endorsed by Michael Bernard Beckwith, author of Life Visioning, as follows:
“What Connie so inspiringly offers to children in this book honors and
illuminates the core essence of every child’s inner greatness. If
children were raised with such affirmation, what a healthy start they
would have in life. I purchased this book for all my grandchildren.
And parents, too, will benefit from the wisdom on its pages.”

It is available in hardcover and kindle.

Conclusion

Affirmations can be a powerful tool for building confidence and positive self-esteem in children. Encourage children to repeat positive affirmations regularly, especially in moments of self-doubt or difficulty, to help reinforce positive beliefs about themselves. Do you think your child would enjoy Connie Bowen’s picture book with positive affirmations for kids?
