My mom has always been interested in a natural, healthy lifestyle and she shared that interest with me. After my kids were born, it is something I think about even more because I want to be healthy and active and enjoy all my time with them. I recently came in contact with a certified health coach with 9 years experience in the health and fitness industry named Sandy Eulas. She is the owner of WellnessWildflower.com, a blog dedicated to empowering others to lead an informed and healthy lifestyle through simple and easy steps. I asked her if she would be so kind as to share about a detox cleanse for weight loss with my readers and she graciously agreed.
A Simple Detox Weight Loss Cleanse
When you hear the word detox, what do you think of? Most people equate a detox cleanse with deprivation, hunger, weird tasting vegetable juices and frequent trips to the bathroom. But this doesn’t have to be the case!
By simply removing a few key offenders from your diet and adding in lots of real, whole foods, you can reboot your metabolism, kick start fat loss, and begin to lose your holiday weight.
What is a Detox Cleanse?
The standard American diet consists mainly of overly processed science experiments we call “food”. Both sugar and flour consumption are off the charts and these two ingredients are shown to cause both food addiction and overeating. They also cause inflammation, which makes you store belly fat when of course you really want to burn belly fat.
A detox in its simplest form is when you abstain from and/or remove any unhealthy substance from your body. In this case, we are aiming to minimize our exposure to and remove any toxins that we are consuming in the food we eat. A detox clease can safely last up to 30 days, but if you are first starting out, I always recommend 7-10 days.
To get started with your detox cleanse for weight loss, you’ll want to remove the biggest offenders from your diet.
What to Remove From Your Diet
Flour & Sugar
As I mentioned, flour and sugar and drastically over consumed and are clearly shown to cause adverse reactions in our body. From food addiction and weight gain to inflammation and depression, these are the first things that need to go. Eat less sugar!
Alcohol
This seems like a pretty obvious one, no? While I’m not asking you to remove alcohol from your life forever, it is always a good idea to give your body- mainly your liver- a break every now and then.
Overly Processed Packaged Foods
When detoxing, the focus is on consuming real, whole foods that provide our bodies with nourishment. If it comes in a box and has a long ingredient list that you likely can’t pronounce, it’s not real food.
Dairy
Dairy is a very common allergen, which is why just about any detox program you come across will have it on the list of foods to remove. Remember, it’s only temporary! I used to consume dairy regularly. It wasn’t until I removed it that I realized it didn’t agree with me.
If you eat the typical American diet, you may be left thinking, “Well, what the heck can I eat?!” Whole, real foods- and lots of them!
What to Include In Your Diet
Protein
You want to consume protein with each meal. This will help to balance blood sugar and curb cravings throughout the day. Try to stick to organic lean meats.
Carbs- Unlimited!
That’s right, I said unlimited carbs. They just have to be the right kind of carbs. Did you know veggies are carbs? Well, you can eat an endless supply of veggies. If it’s in your budget, stick to organic when possible.
Healthy Fats
Eating fat doesn’t make you fat! In fact, it helps to keep you feeling fuller longer and fuels your metabolism. Avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, and nuts and seeds are all great sources of healthy fats.
Water
Aim to drink half your body weight in ounces of clean water. This will help to flush out any toxins stored up in your body.
Easy Weight Loss Cleanse Detox Conclusion
By simply removing the foods that cause us to store fat, feel hungry and have uncontrollable cravings, we are able to reset our metabolism and start shedding pounds with ease. On top of that, removing these toxic substances from your diet can also reduce inflammation, improve sleep, clear up skin and improve mood. Seems like a no brainer! A detox cleans is the perfect combination to eating healthy for weight loss.
