I try to always eat healthy meals. Sure I have a sweet tooth but besides that I actually love healthy meals. I think everything tastes better when it is made from fresh, whole food ingredients. This has always helped me keep my weight in check naturally. However, when I have had a few extra pounds that I want to lose, I use healthy smoothies for weight loss. I got this weight loss tip from my sister and it has served me well.  In this post I will share with you options for healthy smoothie ingredients so you can make your own. I will also share my review of Daily Harvest for weight loss.

Healthy smoothies for weight loss are a natural choice because they are the perfect way to get lots of nutrition in a low calorie format and with lots of great flavor.

A healthy smoothie lets you hide foods that are full of nutrition such as kale in your breakfast and disguise the flavor with even more flavorful healthy foods such as cherries.

A healthy smoothie doesn’t require any fat or oil for cooking!

Healthy smoothies for weight loss can easily be assembled to fit your taste preferences.

You can keep up your liquid intake and help you feel full for longer without consuming any excess calories.

You can even choose healthy smoothie ingredients that can enhance your weight loss by boosting your metabolic rate.

Healthy Smoothie Liquids

There are lots of healthy smoothie liquids that can be used such as almond milk, coconut milk, hemp milk, teas, coconut water, maple water, fruit juice, and plain water.  If you are picking healthy smoothies for weight loss, I suggest sticking with classic H2O. However if that doesn’t leave you feeling full enough, you may want to try any of the other smoothie base liquids I just described. Each has it own health benefits.

There are lots of great ingredients that can be used in smoothies. Most people immediately think of fresh fruits and they certainly are good for you and they taste great too. However, don’t just stick to fruits. Veggies are an important element for nutrients and they don’t have as much natural sugar as fruits. Too much fruit in your smoothies can result in blood sugar spikes and is not a recipe for weight loss. You will also want to include small some light protein elements such as nuts or nut butters to keep the smoothie balance and help you feel satisfied and full longer.

Here are a few great ingredients for healthy smoothies just to get you started:

Spinach-
This yummy green is a powerhouse of nutrients.  Spinach is full of Vitamin A, Vitamin K, manganese and folate.  Leafy greens are also an important source of iron. Baby spinach is also loaded with flavonoids and carotenoids that have been shown to reduce inflammation in the digestive tract.

Zucchini-
Zucchini is a fabulous ingredient to include in healthy smoothies for weight loss because they are extremely low in calories but still give you the feeling of being full. Better yet, they are full of good nutrients to keep your body healthy while you lose weight. Zucchini has a high content of vitamin C, carbohydrates, protein and fiber.

Avocado-
The avocado is another great ingredient to keep you feeling full.  It contains 20 different vitamins and minerals and has a proven ability to lower cholesterol. Avocados are also a great source of healthy fats.

Blueberries-
Delicious blueberries are high in water and fiber which helps to keep you feeling full longer. Blueberries are whole fruits packed with antioxidants to fight inflammation and Vitamin C to keep your immune system strong. But the best part is, catechins found in blueberries activate fat-burning genes in abdominal fat cells to assist with belly fat loss.  Now, that is a dream come true!

Raw Cashew Butter-
Raw cashew butter is high in a wide range of proteins, vitamins and unsaturated fats.   It is helpful to maintain the health of cells and increase muscle and skin tone.

Pumpkin Seeds-
Pumpkin seeds are a good source of protein, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, copper, and iron. They are also a good source of zinc (more than any other seed) which is important for burning fat.

If using the smoothies as a meal replacement, you may want to include protein powder, peanut butter, or almond butter in your weight loss smoothie recipes. Protein is essential to helping you feel full and have enough energy to power through your day.

Just by playing with different combinations of these ingredients, you can make so many different weight loss smoothie recipes. The most important thing to remember for weight loss is stay away from added sugar. So put that refined white sugar back in the cabinet!
