Fall weather has finally arrived. For me, that means cleaning out my closet and taking my warmer clothing out of hiding. During this process, I noticed my excessive t-shirt collection. When I laid my t-shirts on the floor, I realized that I am either a hoarder or I just can’t say no to a free t-shirt. OK—maybe it’s a little of both. But what I also realized was that I didn’t have to give them ALL away. Why not make something from t-shirts? That is when I came with this DIY infinity t-shirt scarf tutorial. I have included step by step directions so you can make scarf from t shirt.
I have an obsession with scarves (much stronger than my t-shirt obsession), so I decided to make an infinity scarf (a scarf that forms a loop with no ends) from one of the shirts I had planned on tossing out. Instead of spending $15+ at a store buying a scarf, I made a DIY infinity scarf in about five minutes. It was so simple. In just three steps, you’ll have a cute t-shirt scarf!

DIY Tee Shirt Scarf Materials Needed:
- An old t-shirt
- Scissors (that will easily cut fabric)
That is all you need to make a tee shirt infinity scarf!
How To Make Scarves From Old T Shirts
Step 1: Cut off the end of your t-shirt at the seam. Then, cut across the shirt just below the sleeves.
Step 2: Take the bottom half of the shirt you cut off and stretch it out. Try stepping on the material and pulling. Bigger shirts work better because you can stretch them further.
Step 3: Take your new loop and wrap it once or twice. And there you have it!
If you want a DIY infinity scarf that’s more than one color, repeat the process on a second shirt and wind the two together.
Feel like you haven’t done enough with your t-shirt?
Try cutting off the edge of a sleeve, rip the seam, and tie it together. You’ve just made a headband!
T-shirts are also great for making braided necklaces, tote bags, rose embellishments, upcycled shirts, and more! Reusing your clothes can save you money and give you one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories. So instead of throwing your clothes out, get creative and upcycle t-shirts!
