School’s out and summer is finally here. No doubt your teens are excited for the break but in a couple of weeks they’ll be bored and looking for something to do. Helping your teen come up with creative ways to make money this summer will not only teach them responsibility and great financial lessons; it will keep them busy doing something they’ll enjoy. They can stay busy, have fun, and learn to manage money all at the same time. This list of ways for teens to earn money has something for everyone whether they live in the country or the city.

5 Creative Ways for Teens to Earn Money

Of course, the first way that most people will think of for teens to earn money is to get a summer job. That is an excellent place to start but sometimes schedules, living location, or lack of transportation can prevent teens from getting a normal hourly job and they may still want to earn money. That is where these creative ways to make money may come in handy for your teen. They may even help them learn great entrepreneurial skills too!

1. Start a business.

You’re never too young to start a business and build it into a success. And it’s not as hard as you might think! Starting their own business will teach your teen responsibility and strong business skills. And they can earn money to start saving for college. A few ideas might include a lawn care service, pet sitting service or selling new and used products online. eBay and Amazon both offer ways for you to make extra money selling yard sale and Goodwill finds. Help your teen research local business requirements including business license and registration.

2. Teach an Online Class.

Similar to tutoring, but instead of helping just one person, they can make money teaching a class to many. Udemy is a website that offers online video courses on just about any subject you can imagine. Is your teen a Facebook or Instagram guru? Or maybe they know all about building a YouTube channel. They can create their own video course to teach other people what they know and earn a passive income. And, if they’re not sure about how to create or market their own business, Udemy is also a great place for them to find courses that will teach them what they need to know.

3. Write a book.

Don’t want to teach a video course? If you can read and write and you’re knowledgeable on a topic that others want to know about, you can become an author. Don’t believe me? Check out Marc Guberti’s author profile on Amazon. This teen has a successful business teaching online courses on Udemy, writing books on Amazon, and keeping up with his popular blog. With Amazon paying a 70% profit to authors selling their eBooks for at least $2.99, that adds up to a nice payday. All of these ideas for teens to earn money should look good on your teens college applications but especially this one!

4. Start a T-Shirt Business.

There are a variety of companies that offer t-shirt printing for your own designs. Just upload a design, choose the type of shirt you want to offer, and start your t-shirt campaign. If your teen is creative, this could be a great money-making opportunity. There’s no start-up fee either. All you have to do is create and market. The printing company will keep a portion of the profits to cover their costs and deposit the remaining profits in your account.

5. Sell Your Crafts.

If your teen is crafty, Etsy is a great place for them! Etsy makes it possible for them to be able to sell their crafts in an online store. Etsy welcomes teens as long as their store is registered and managed by a parent or legal guardian. There are so many awesome crafts that teens can make and sell- here is a list of 45 ideas for handmade products.

Conclusion

There are several ways teenagers can earn money, depending on their skills, interests, and available time. Many retail stores, restaurants, and local businesses hire teenagers for part-time positions. That type of position is the most reliable but if your teen doesn’t have transportation, they miss to pursue freelancing options. Teens with skills in writing, graphic design, programming, or other fields can offer their services online through platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, or through local community boards. Or if your teen excels in a particular subject, they could offer tutoring services to other students. Another old favorite is providing childcare or pet care services. It can be a good way to earn money, especially for responsible teenagers. If you teenager is crafty, they could make and sell items like jewelry, artwork, or clothing online or at local markets. As you can see, there are so many ways for how to earn money as a teenager.

I hope these ideas for how teens can earn money were helpful. Remember to check local laws and regulations regarding the employment of minors, as there may be restrictions on the types of work and hours they can work. So which of these creative ways for teens to earn money is the one that you think your teen will be most excited about?
