How To Make Felt Christmas Tree Ornaments (Step By Step Instructions)
This is a very hands on activity for the kids! Parents, you may need to cut the tree out (depending on the child’s age) but the rest of the fun is all theirs!! Gather your supplies and head to an open space. We love to spread out on the floor. Grab your felt (what we had was red, grey and white felt).
Draw a Christmas Tree on your felt or you can do what I did and you can trace around a cookie cutter! Another option is to print a free pattern for tracing. Either way, you need some tree shapes outlined onto the felt! Once you have drawn a few trees and cut them out, it’s time to decorate your felt Christmas trees.
We grabbed some glue and glitter, a few faux jewels and foam stickers! Anything works! Let the kids do whatever they’d like to do for their Christmas decorations.
They can make glitter trees. To do this, work over a sheet of newspaper or construction paper, or a plate plate. This will help contain the excess glitter. Completely cover one side of the fabric in a thin layer of glue and then sprinkle with glue. Allow to dry and shake the excess off over your disposable work surface. Or apply stickers and sticky rhinestones as they would Christmas ornaments on a tree. We also use a bit of glue on the back of our homemade foam ornaments. Let creativity rein.
Once the felt trees are decorated, grab a piece of a pipe cleaner or some string and tape or glue it to the back of the charming ornaments so that they can be hung on the Christmas tree. See top photo.
