This post is brought to you by OhmConnect, a startup that created a unique system to pay users to save energy during peak hours! They make it easy to save energy during electricity peak hours by notifying you when peak hours are occurring. Better yet, you can choose to automate saving energy during electricity peak hours if you have smart device. Making it easy, saving energy, and paying you- OhmConnect is a triple win.
Energy Bills Can Be Expensive
We all know that energy bills can add be expensive and as parents we have other places we need to be speeding money- like diapers, food, and new clothes for ever growing children. Even before I had kids, I had other places I wanted to spend my money! In college, for instance, my electricity bills were actually a huge limiting factor. The average electricity bill is over $100*. We could all use lower electricity bills but many times people don’t know exactly how to achieve them. You can and should take steps to make your home more energy efficient but beyond that, many people aren’t sure what else they can do. That is where OhmConnect can help. They help you save energy during peak electricity hours and pay you to do so.
OhmConnect Helps You Save Energy During Electricity Peak Hours
OhmConnect monitors real-time conditions on the electricity grid and watches for peak electricity hours. The OhmConnect free service sends you a text about once a week and if you reduce your energy use, they send you a payment. In fact, users can get paid up to $300 a year for reducing their energy consumption during these peak electricity hours. I think this is the coolest service. Where’s the catch? There is none, except that it is currently only available in California. I can’t wait for the service to expand to more states soon!
California’s energy authority would prefer to pay residents to save energy rather than pay a power plant to produce more energy. When OhmConnect detects that one of the grid’s most polluting and carbon-intensive power plants is about to turn on, they send you a notification to save energy (an #OhmHour). Then you can turn off a few lights, turn off your thermostat, or do your laundry later. In this way the energy saving residents receive the payments that would otherwise go to that power plant to produce more energy. Residents get paid to save energy and a dirty power plant remains off. Now that is a pretty great idea!
Automated Energy Savings
You can automate saving energy and earning money with OhmConnect. You just need to connect your smart home devices, including wifi thermostats, electric vehicles, and smart plugs to OhmConnect in order to automate your participation in reduction events. I love that it can be effortless to do good and save money at the save time.
