The school year is coming to a close and it’s time to celebrate a job well-done as well as a fun summer ahead. Planning an end of school year party will get your kids extra excited for the last day of school. These end of school year party ideas are especially great for kids that may be moving to a new school for the coming school year and want a chance to have a last hurrah with all their current school friends. Here are some great ideas to inspire your party planning.

Last Day Of School Party Ideas The Kids Will Love

awesome end of school year party ideas

As the end of the school year approaches most kids are excited for the last day. However, some kids may be sad for the school year to end. My son is in the later category since he will be attending a new school next year and feels sad to be leaving his friends behind. Either way, every kid is sure to enjoy these end of school year party ideas to help start the summer off in high spirits.

movie party

Outdoor Movie Party

Bring your big screen TV out to the garage or rent an LCD projector to project a kid-friendly movie on white sheet you hang from a clothesline. This is a great party idea to invite all the parents to as well. Cookout with hamburgers and hot dogs, make individual servings of popcorn with a popcorn topping bar, or make s’mores.

kids ice cream party

Ice Cream Party

Celebrate summer with an ice cream feast. Decorate by making paper ice cream cones out of construction paper, hanging streamers or popsicle garland, using colorful tablecloths and napkins, and placing decorative paper ice cream cups on cake stands. Offer a variety of ice cream flavors along with as many toppings as you can think of. Hot fudge, caramel, whipped cream, fruit, gummy bears, cookie crumbles, chopped up candy bars, and sprinkles to name a few. An ice cream bar is sure to make all the kids scream for ice cream!

kids pool party

Pool Party

You don’t need a big pool to have a pool party, but you may want a small blow-up kid’s pool for them to splash their feet in and a slip-n-slide you can lay across your backyard. Decorate with your favorite summer items from a local discount store like sand buckets and shovels, pool noodles, and beach balls. Don’t forget to play pool games and have some fun pool snacks! This is my favorite of these end of school year party ideas probably because I still remember attending one of these as a child.

easy earth day activities

Build Your Own Picnic Party

Set up a buffet table with a variety of individual chip bags, individually wrapped cookies and brownies, assorted sandwiches, canned beverages, and fruit cups. All the kids can make-their-own picnic lunch. Be sure to use lots of colors in your buffet table décor to brighten things up. Kids can make these adorable fruit slice fans as a fun craft. Have beach towels to sit on and throw pillows to make things cute and cozy for your picnic party.

Make-Your-Own Pizza Party

Who doesn’t love pizza? But everyone likes different toppings. So instead of ordering a bunch of pizzas for delivery, let everyone make their own. Get some individual pizza crusts and lay out a table with pizza sauce, cheese, and a variety of toppings. Let everyone build their own personalized pizza. This is also a fun idea to do with burgers or tacos. Be sure to make some pizza decorations and you can even make the dessert pizza themed with this delicious fruit dessert pizza recipe.

Carnival Party

Have a carnival party with an assortment of outdoor games. Make a giant-sized Twister game or Tic-Tac-Toe board with a white bedsheet. You can use frisbees for Tic-Tac-Toe, then have a frisbee throwing contest with them later. Other games might include cornhole, a sack race, egg toss, and balloon pop. Face painting is always fun too!

water balloons summer activity

Splash Bash

Here is another fun and memorable end-of-school party idea, tailored to celebrate the transition into summer and the accomplishments of the school year:

  • Rent a water slide, set up sprinklers, or use a slip-and-slide.
  • Incorporate water balloons and squirt guns for extra fun.
  • Give kids sidewalk chalk and bubble wands.
  • Set up a water gun art area.

End of School Year Party Ideas Conclusion

A great way to celebrate the end of the school year and the all the hard work done is throw a last days of school party! Kick off the summer break with a bang! Knowing a party is at the finish line will make getting through the exams and last week of school so much easier.

End of school party ideas should include fun activities and some yummy treats. Whether your kids are in elementary school or high school they are sure to think a party is a great idea and a fun way to welcome the start of summer vacation. There is no better reward than a chance to relax and hang out with your best friends.

At your end of school year party, have paper and markers available and get all the kids to write a summer bucket list. It’s a great way for them to start thinking about how they’ll spend their time off. It would also be fun to have them sign photo album pages and nominate friends for end of year awards. Then you can have a photo booth and take pictures during the party and make up a little photo album afterwards.
