I’m sure you’ve seen the beautiful night lights made from glass blocks.  I know that I’ve admired them at craft shows and little shops.  This DIY Night Light is similar but made from two inexpensive glass ashtrays.  Are you thinking ashtrays, really?  Many stores, including several dollar stores, still sell ashtrays and there are some pretty fun crafts that can transform them into something special! I hope you enjoy this easy homemade night light tutorial.

How To Make A Homemade Night Light

Supplies:

  • 2 glass ashtrays
  • 1 small set of battery powered Christmas lights
  • ribbon
  • hot glue gun and glue

Instructions:

Carefully arrange the Christmas lights into one of the glass ashtrays.  The cord for the lights will run through the hole created by the indents/rests in the ashtray.

Glass Night Light How To

Place the other ashtray on top of the Christmas lights, aligning the indents.

Use a small amount of hot glue to secure the two glass dishes together.

Wrap a piece of ribbon around the glass night light you’ve created with the two ashtrays.  Tie the ribbon into a pretty bow at the top.  You can also add pieces of artificial pine, small ornaments, or other holiday items to decorate the top of the night light.

This little Holiday DIY Night Light makes a great gift or a special piece to keep for yourself.  Display it on a shelf or mantel with other holiday decor. You can also use it as a night light in the kitchen, bathroom, or entryway to your home. Make this same night light for other holiday themes too. You can customize it by adding stars and stripes for an Independence Day decoration or fall colors, acorns, and leaves for Autumn.

I have also made these pretty glass night lights for baby shower gifts to match a nursery theme.  Make them to match the decor in any room of your home!  Just remember to stock up on battery powered Christmas lights this time of year!

How would you decorate a homemade glass night light for yourself?
