With warmer temps sticking around, the spring flowers are really starting to bloom. Don’t you just love the bright colors that start popping out in early spring after a dull, grey winter?! We love flowers and have quite a few wild ones in our backyard. We also have some flower pots producing already. The kids love going outside and pick flowers to bring back into the house. The only thing is, I don’t want to hand over a nice glass vase to a 4 year old and a 6 year old! We all know what would probably happen there. But plastic kid cups aren’t very fun vases either. So, I decided to recycle some tin cans that we had laying around and teach them how to make a vase out of tin can! A metal vase is a great way to ensure the kids can’t break it!

These Tin Can Flower Vases make the perfect little container to hold a few flowers. The kids loved decorating the cans by painting them and adding stickers. It was definitely a spring artwork project that they loved participating in. If you are looking for recycled tin can crafts this one makes a fun and functional home decoration.

How To Make Tin Vase For Flowers:

Start by peeling the label off of your can if that hasn’t been done. Place a paper towel or paper plate under the can and squirt out some paint on that paper towel or plate. Now your child can paint the can anyway that he/she would like! My kiddos just used one color each but a multicolor vase would be fun too. Or have him/her paint the vase to match their room. After the can has been painted to their liking, the hardest part of the recycled tin can craft…waiting for it to dry! Depending on how thick they layered on the paint, it could take up to an hour to dry.

Do you think your child would enjoy making a Tin Can Flower Vase? These can be made in a wide variety of styles. Feel free to share his/her picture with us if they decide to make one- just tag @familyfocusblog on your social network of choice.

Recycled Tin Can Craft Grown Up Version:

Want to know how to make a flower vase out of a tin can with a little more grown up appeal? You can leave the original tin can the shiny silver color and just tie a ribbon or some twine around it in a bow for a simple farmhouse style. They would work great for sprucing up some outdoor party tables with cut flowers.

These Tin Can Vases can be used for fresh flowers, backyard bouquets, or even for DIY tissue paper flowers. Somehow the simplicity of the tin flower vase only works to draw more attention to the stunning display of nature’s beautiful blossoms.
