I am sharing my review of Spry Tooth Gel With Xylitol for by baby boy in hopes that it may be helpful to you. I have not been sponsored by anyone to review the Kid’s Spry Tooth Gel with Xylitol products nor was the product provided for review purposes. The opinions expressed are 100% my own.
My mother has been a dental hygienist for over 30 years. And even though she had me awkwardly spend many of my formative years wired from ear to ear in braces, I’m still immensely grateful that she instilled in me the importance of oral health from a young age. Now that my son Pierson has started teething, my mother recommended I try Kid’s Spry tooth gel with xylitol. It’s an all natural tooth gel that helps soothe inflamed gums and promote a healthy gum and tooth environment in the mouth so you can help protect your child’s smile.
Review of Kid’s Spry Tooth Gel with Xylitol
What is xylitol?
Xylitol is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol found in birch trees and many other fruits and vegetables. The human body also produces it in small amounts. It promotes healthy gums and teeth by killing the bacteria that causes cavaties and gum disease. It’s also known to help reduce the risk of ear infections and minimize nasal congestion. Spry has a wide variety of oral health products that contain xylitol and you can get them at several local retailers or on amazon (affiliate link below.)
Is xylitol safe?
Xylitol itself is an organic substance. It is important that the company you get your xylitol from uses Non-GMO produce to manufacture their xylitol, (Spry uses only Non-GMO corn cobs and stalks.) Xylitol has been approved in the US as a food additive in unlimited quantities. It’s also great as a sugar substitute, versus artificial sweeteners, because it is naturally sweet. But as with anything you’re considering giving your child, I urge you to speak with your dentist or pediatrician if you have any concerns.
The product I’ve given my son is the Kid’s Spry tooth gel with xylitol for ages 3 months and older. It is completely safe to swallow and does not contain fluoride. The baby pack comes with a pacifier that has a small container to put the xylitol tooth gel in. Baby sucks the gel through the nipple of the pacifier. Xylitol is naturally sweet so my son loves the taste of it. Keeping the pacifier chilled in a clean space in the fridge before giving it to Pierson gives him an extra measure of comfort for his sore gums. I try and give him the treatment before his pain really sets in, usually around bedtime. This seems to prevent him from getting over-the-top fussy. I like to exhaust natural remedies for his pain before having to resort to medicine.
What causes unhealthy teeth and gums in young children?
Your kisses may be the culprit! Did you know you can pass cavity forming bacteria to your child by blowing on their food, sharing utensils, and yes, even smothering those tiny lips with kisses?
Cavities can be caused by the bacteria Streptococcus mutans, that is easily transmissible through saliva from parents or caregivers to children during infancy. It’s important to wipe down your baby’s gums after they’ve had a bottle and before bedtime even before any teeth have broken through. You can use a warm cloth or a soft baby tooth brush. These are also great times to introduce the xylitol products and make sure there is no bacteria growth. Transference of bacteria is only one small part of what puts your child’s mouth at risk. Your baby’s teeth have already been forming underneath their gums in the womb; that is one of the reasons why it’s so important for expectant moms to get plenty of calcium. Proper oral hygiene, healthy foods, and regular dental check-ups are all necessary to maintain optimum oral health.
Why are baby teeth important?
Other than keeping up the fairly odd tradition of the Tooth Fairy, you may not think that baby teeth have much significance. They all fall out anyway right? (In some cases with some help from Dad and a pair of pliers.) But baby teeth set the foundation for many developments. Other important factors:
-Save space for adult teeth
-Correct chewing and food digestion
-Painful if not cared for
-Self confidence of a healthy smile
– Proper speech development
Costly dental visits, pain, and improper development can all be avoided if you implement a good oral care regimen with your children early on. Spry has a fun array of xylitol products that can make great oral health a little easier along the way from childhood to adulthood. Proper prevention techniques should be started now to ensure your child a lifetime of healthy smiles.
