I have 2 animal lovers at my house! My kiddos love the cats and dogs in the neighborhood but they especially love birds. They each have trees outside of their bedroom windows where birds just love to hang out and enjoy nature. My daughter had an idea to make a bird feeder for the birds in “her” tree and I thought it was a great idea! With a little roaming around the house, we found the perfect items to build our bird feeder! You more than likely have all of the items that you need in your home as well to make this easy toilet paper roll bird feeder with your kids.

Supplies Needed for your Toilet Paper Roll Bird Feeder:

  • Toilet Paper Rolls (we used 4)
  • Stapler
  • Markers
  • Stickers
  • String
  • Paper Plate or a piece of Cardstock paper

How To Make A Bird Feeder With Toilet Paper Roll

Start by decorating your rolls. My daughter wanted to use her dot markers and stickers. After she was done decorating the paper rolls, I grabbed the stapler and stapled them together (hot glue or double sided tape would work just fine too). Next, the paper rolls needed a bottom part for the bird food to sit on so I cut out circular pieces from a paper plate that we cold place inside of the paper rolls.

We placed the inserts towards the top so the birds could easily get to their food! Next, we added 2 twigs to each side of the feeder so that the birds would have a little something to perch on while eating. If your feeder is close to a part of the tree where the birds could land, that would work as well. I just cut a small hold on either side of ours and taped the twigs to the outside of the feeder. The last 2 things to do to finish up your feeder is to add a string to hang the feeder by and add some food! We crumbled up some plain chips but birdseed, of course, would be the best option!

My children love watching the birds come to the feeders.  Do you attract birds to your yard?  Has your child every made a bird feeder using items around the house? Give this toilet paper roll bird feeder a try the next time you have some empty toilet paper rolls lying around!
