Essential Oil Recipe For Dark Under Eye Circles Tutorial
Under eye rollers are skincare tools designed to help reduce puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines around the eyes. They typically feature a small, rolling ball that can be made of metal, jade, or other materials. The rolling motion and cooling effect can help reduce swelling and fluid retention under the eyes.
Do you often find yourself waking up to redness or dullness around your eyes? This under eye essential oil roller soothes, detoxifies and combats those annoying puffy, dark circles under eyes.
Ingredients & Supplies for your Nightly Eye Roller:
- Glass 10ml Roller Bottle
- Lavender, Lemon and Frankincense Essential Oil ( Young Living brand)
- Small/Mini Funnel
- Sweet Almond oil or Pomegranate oil
- Witch Hazel (optional)
The ingredients in this eye treatment are great for reducing eye puffiness, eye circles and appearance of fine lines. I like to use a roller bottle with a metal tip for the added cooling effect which helps reduce any form of puffiness.
Essential Oils For Dark Circles, Puffy Eyes, And Under Eye Bags
These three essential oils for dark circles and puffy eyes should never be used directly on the skin around the eyes alone- they must be used in a carrier oil- as in the recipe for the under eye roller I provide. This dilution is important to delivering them in appropriate amount that won’t trigger sensitivity in the delicate skin around your eyes.
Frankincense essential oil promotes regeneration of healthy skin cells. It promotes even skin tone – goodbye puffy eyes! Frankincense can also help to eliminate sun spots and fight micro-wrinkles. It is an extremely powerful essential oil. You may remember it as one of the gifts that the three wise men brought to the birth of baby Jesus!
Lavender essential oil is also known to be great for healing skin. According to Healthline, “Lavender oil can aid in skin lightening since it reduces inflammation. It can reduce discoloration, including dark spots. Lavender oil helps lessen blotchiness and redness.” All of these things make it a perfect addition to this under eye roller. It is great both for reducing inflammation and puffiness of eyes as well as lightening those dark circles.
Lemon essential oil is also beneficial for fighting dark circles as it is lightly exfoliating and reduces hyperpigmentation. However, lemon essential oil can increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun so only a small amount is used in this recipe.
Sweet almond oil is the carrier oil I chose for this DIY eye roller because it is high in vitamin E and the powerful antioxidants in it are great for your skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties that make it great for reducing bags under eyes. Almond oil also serves to hydrate dry skin.
The Witch Hazel is optional but it helps tone the skin so it will benefit the under eye area when added to this roller as well.
How To Make Under Eye Essential Oil Roller:
Start by grabbing your supplies and head to the kitchen counter or bathroom counter. Remove the metal ball roller head from the bottle.
Add 15 drops of your Lavender essential oils, 5 drops of your Lemon essential oil and 15 drops of your Frankincense essential oil to the roller bottle.
If you adding witch hazel, you can add 1 tsp now.
Next, top your bottle off with your sweet almond oil (this can be found in the oil aisle at your local grocery store).
Once you have added all your ingredients, pop the roller on, shake, and your under eye roller is ready to use!
How To Get Rid Of Dark Circles From Under Eyes With This Under Eye Roller
Before you use it for the first time, be sure to use on a small, less visible area of skin such as your wrist, just to test that you are not allergic or sensitive to any of the ingredients.
You may want to keep the under eye roller in the fridge for an added cooling effect, which can further reduce puffiness.
Every night, use the under eye roller to apply the mixture of essential oils for dark circles. Using light pressure, roll the tool from the inner corner of your eye towards the outer corner. Just roll on a line or two below each eye from the inner corner area to the outer corner area. Use care not to apply it too close to your eye as you don’t want it to get in your eyes. Gently pat into skin with fingertips. This is made for the area where the under eye bags form.
The rolling motion and the gentle pressure of the patting will help increase blood flow to the area as well. This will reduce puffiness by increasing lymphatic drainage and also serve to make blood vessels less visible. For best results, use daily. It is a great way to nourish your skin and maintain your naturally youthful appearance.
You might be asking, “Why use this at night?” As I mentioned earlier, the lemon essential oil is photosensitive. As a precaution, it should NOT be rolled on skin that will immediately exposed to the sun. For this reason, you should use the under eye roller before hoping into bed. Furthermore, it gives the essential oils a good amount of time to soak in and benefit your eye skin. By applying at night, you will wake up with fresh eyes. This will save you from tired eyes and having to gob on a large amount of concealer in the mornings.
