Are you a fan of Marvel? There are so many great Marvel comics and movies out but nothing brings all the characters to life like Marvel Universe LIVE! Ever wonder how they make those huge arena shows and about all the work that goes into them? I recently attended a press trip so that I could witness a rehearsal of the new Marvel Universe LIVE Show, Age Of Heroes and let me tell you that it is one thrilling live action show! Before the actual Marvel Universe LIVE Age Of Heroes performance, I was able to get a sneak peak at behind the scenes training, practicing, costumes, and more. I will share that experience with you here.
Introducing A New Marvel Universe LIVE Show: Age Of Heroes, Opening in July!
You can join your favorite Marvel Super Heroes for action-packed adventure at the #MarvelUniverseLIVE Age of Heroes Show! It will premiere at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California on July 7, 2017. Tickets are already on sale for all 2017 North American shows.
I’d seen the Marvel movies and I’d seen lots of Feld Entertainment shows but I still wasn’t sure what to expect from Marvel Universe LIVE Age Of Heroes. Was it going to be like a play? Was it going to be a spectacle? How were they going to use the space to to perform in front of huge arenas and make it visually impactful?
Well, I’ll give you more details on all of that when I get to the actual rehearsal itself but the Marvel Universe LIVE show did an amazing job of storytelling while delivering tons of drama and real-life Super Hero action. They incorporated lots of impressive elements into the show that really work to keep you stimulated and engaged throughout. You will get tastes of these various elements through my behind the scenes tour and the show weaves them into the plot seamlessly with an impressive visual display.
Behind The Scenes Of Marvel Universe LIVE Age Of Heroes
Feld Entertainment was rolling out the red carpet for the Marvel Super Heroes and it makes a great photo backdrop on your way into the show!
They also had some fun costume stations so you can act out your Super Hero fantasies and get photos to remember them by!
I was fun to be an honorary Guardian of The Galaxy of well!
The Talent
Photo fun aside, we got to meet many of the actors and talk them about their experiences preparing for the show.
The photo above shows me with Hilary Kadoya, who plays Rocket, and Kaitlin Murdock, who plays Black Cat. What was interesting to me was hearing how long they have been dancing and doing gymnastics! Both were involved with dance or gymnastics by the age of 5 and spent hours and hours training each week. Naturally, a show like Age Of Heroes gave them the chance to showcase their remarkable skills while developing them even further!
We also got to witness the aerialist, Shannon Stanley as she practiced her routine. There is a scene in the show where they arrive in a location that has a festival going on and the aerial silks performance fits in perfectly there as does a beautiful dancing dragon display. I think moms in particular will enjoy this visually captivating scene and break in the action.
Next, we got to meet Justin Jackson, who plays Captain America, Lou Musselman, who can play almost any of the female roles, and Antonio Jackson, who plays Yondu. It was very interesting to learn about their various paths into the show. They were all super energetic and pumped about their roles in the show. And they would have to be considering they train 11 hours a day for 6 days a week during their 3 month rehearsal period. They said that the cast is a tight knit crew and it is like having a whole new family.
Jaw-Dropping Stunts
Next up on our Marvel Universe Live Age Of Heroes behind the scenes tour was a demonstration of how they do some of the jaw-dropping stunts in the show. David Doersch, fight choreographer, said that what makes the super heroes super is their ability to combat the super villains so the fighters have to skilled in delivering faux blows and reacting to faux blows. What was really fun was after demonstrating the technique, they gave the press members a chance to learn how to attack and the professionals responded with the appropriate moves so that it looked like Rachel from The Everyday Mom Life was beating up the stunt man. Pretty cool:)
I can’t forget the behind the scenes bike scene too! Not only is the stunt bike work amazing, but they also have fight scenes going on at the same time and Spiderman climbing around the scaffolding! It was really interesting to learn that bikers for Captain America and Black Widow grew up competing against each other and now they work together!
Here is a little video so you can get an idea of how they train:
Costume Design
All of this rehearsal mixed with some amazing costume design really makes the Marvel Super Heroes come to life before the audience’s eyes!
Groot’s costume details blew me away but then so did they all, really. Look at the detail on Dr. Strange’s costume! Just awesome.
Next up, I got to see the Marvel Universe Live Age Of Heros show itself. It was awesome! When I say it was super action packed, I mean it full of outrageous stunts and fight sequences. The story line has Doctor Strange call on the Guardians of the Galaxy, including Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Rocket and Drax, to combat the scheming Nebula who teams up with loathsome villains Loki, Yondu and Green Goblin. Spider-Man as well as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, Hulk, Wasp and Black Widow join the mission to recover the Wand of Watoomb and defend the universe from evil. The whole host of characters has you engaged in their journey. The cutting-edge special effects, pyrotechnics, and various other elements I mentioned elevate the show to a point where you are just amazed to see your super heroes come to life and perform in front of you.
Conclusion
We will be bringing my son to a Marvel Universe LIVE show near us for sure! I know he will love it. I also know he will be fighting around the house acting out the scenes in his mind for weeks afterwards. The show will bring home good messages for him too about never giving up, always giving it your all, and being brave when things seem less than certain.
The athleticism and skills of the cast allow the super hero powers of Marvel characters to
