I am happy to be acquainted with local Nashville author, Leonardo Ramirez. He introduced me to a whole new realm books- steampunk sci fi books. His steampunk book series for kids is full of imagination and humor. When he released his first book in the series, The Jupiter Chronicles: The Secret of the Great Red Spot, my children and I read it together. My kids loved it and my daughter innocently asked, “Why did it have to end?” You can be sure that when the second book in the new science fiction book series, The Ice Orphan of Ganymede, came out we read it together too. Now that the third book is about to be released, my blog has been given the honor of a doing a cover reveal. You will love the Steampunk style of the graphic. I even get to share some fabulous steampunk coloring pages with y’all!

Sci Fi Books For 12 Year Olds- The Jupiter Chronicles Series

In The Secret of the Great Red Spot we are introduced to two brave siblings setting out on an epic journey into the unknown. The sibling dynamic adds a sense of humor and underlines the importance of the family bonds through thick and thin. The steam-powered floating cities of Jupiter can’t help draw you into the fantasy world.

Then in book 2, The Ice Orphan of Ganymede, the siblings delve deeper into finding out who they truly are while facing a myriad of interplanetary challenges.

After reading book 2, my daughter asked, “Why did it have to end?“

Now, The Jupiter Chronicles Book 3: The Orb of Terra is being released! Today, October 9th, is the first day of pre-orders on Amazon (affiliate link). Both print and digital release on November 17. I know, my kids and I are excited to read this one too as it is about a family adventure high stakes space race to save our world from an invading force before it is too late. It is also a personal quest for the hero to find his destiny…something we call all relate too!

About Steampunk Style:

Steampunk is a unique aesthetic and genre that combines Victorian-era fashion and technology with elements of science fiction and fantasy. Rooted in the idea of an alternate history where steam power remained dominant, steampunk envisions a world filled with airships, clockwork contraptions, and brass-fitted goggles. The style is heavily influenced by 19th-century industrial advancements, often blending old-fashioned elegance with mechanical innovation. Whether in literature, fashion, or design, steampunk offers a visually rich and imaginative universe where inventors, explorers, and rebels thrive.

The origins of steampunk can be traced back to science fiction authors like Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, who wrote about futuristic technology using steam power. The term “steampunk” itself was coined in the 1980s as a play on cyberpunk, describing stories that reimagined history with fantastical machines. Over time, steampunk has expanded beyond books and films into fashion, art, and even lifestyle communities. People embrace it through cosplay, DIY mechanical gadgets, and immersive events, celebrating a world where Victorian elegance meets industrial grit.

What makes steampunk so cool is its fusion of old and new—bringing together the romance of the past with the innovation of an alternate future. The aesthetic is both nostalgic and forward-thinking, allowing for endless creativity. Whether it’s a beautifully designed brass-covered time machine, a corset-and-goggles ensemble, or a steam-powered airship battle, steampunk sparks the imagination in a way that few other styles do. It’s an open invitation to reinvent history, explore new worlds, and embrace the spirit of adventure.
