I was provided with some Silk Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative samples to try. I love finding new healthy snacks for my kids so the Silk Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative sounded like a perfect addition to our after school snack routine options. In order to go the extra mile and win “mommy of the year award” (LOL), I made a fun snack bar for my kids featuring yogurt alternative mix in ideas for when they tried the new snack.
Silk Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative
The brand new Silk Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative is perfect to use in recipes, as a snack, or for breakfast. It is a healthy choice that even works for those who are vegan or on a dairy-free diet. Plant-based, Silk Dairy-Free provides 6 grams of soy protein per serving, with no cholesterol. Plus, it’s made with real fruit, with no artificial flavors or colors! I love that! I also like knowing that it is a good source of calcium and vitamin D while being gluten-free and carrageenan-free. It come in 6 yummy flavors:
- Strawberry
- Blueberry
- Black Cherry
- Vanilla
- Tropical Pineapple
- Peach & Mango
My 7 year old boy, my 9 year old girl, and myself all like the new Silk Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative. It is smooth and creamy in texture and we liked the fruit flavors. I also liked that even though it has the creamy texture, there is no creamy aftertaste. In other words, my mouth felt cleaner and fresher after eating it than it does after dairy yogurt. I thought that was a cool bonus. We had a good time trying the mix-ins to make it even more fun but the taste was delicious solo too!
10 Fun Mix Ins Ideas For Snack Time
I put a little bowl of each mix-in on the table and gave both of my kids a Silk Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative with the lid peeled off. They went to town! The mix-ins that I suggest include some healthy choices and some just plain yummy and fun choices.
1. Ground Flax Seeds
I grind these up fresh and my kids love them on yogurt and oatmeal. You just need a tiny bit- say a 1/2 teaspoon to a teaspoon per person. These are a healthy mix-in option because flax seeds are loaded with Omega-3 essential fatty acids, which have been shown to have heart-healthy effects.
2. Chia Seeds
Again, just a small amount, per person. My daughter likes the crunch and I like they have a massive amount of nutrients, antioxidants, and fiber in such a tiny little seed!
3. Granola
Use homemade granola or store bought. A few tablespoons adds a lot of crunch and makes the snack more filling.
4. Cinnamon
A sprinkle of cinnamon adds flavor, flair, and antioxidants to the party!
5. Fresh Fruit
Yes, the yogurt alternative already comes in fruit flavors which are yummy but fresh fruit is so pretty and healthy- who could resist adding a little more?
6. Nuts
Pecans, walnuts, almond slivers, you name it, nuts are delicious and protein packed and great sprinkled on so many things!
7. Maple Syrup / Honey / Agave
If you must sweeten things up, these natural sweeteners are a delicious way to do so- a drizzle of maple syrup, honey, or agave.
8. Pumpkin Butter/ Apple Butter
Pumpkin butter or apple butter are two more fun options for mixing in.
9. Chocolate Chips
A few dark chocolate chips add the fun factor! I can never resist a little dark chocolate.
10. Sprinkles
For some reason, kids can’t resist sprinkles and the fun seems to multiply with just a few sprinkles of colored sugar!
