This is a tasty strawberry topping recipe is made with strawberries (fresh or frozen), sugar, spices, and a touch of liqueur. You can make a non-alcoholic version for the kiddies then add in the liqueur for the adults to share. You are going to love how easy it is to make this strawberry topping and how full of flavor it is!
Strawberry Topping Recipe:
2 cups of fresh sliced strawberries
3 tbsp of butter
1/2 cup of light brown sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/3 cup strawberry liqueur
How To Make Strawberry Topping:
Collect all of the ingredients onto the counter along with a saucepan or skillet.
Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat.
Slowly stir in the light brown sugar and mix until smooth.
Add the cinnamon and vanilla into the butter mixture and cook over low to medium low heat until it begins to bubble.
Once the sauce is smooth, add the sliced strawberries. I suggest using fresh strawberries if you have access to them because they are always the most delicious but frozen strawberries will work fine too.
Continue cooking and stirring until fruit is tender about 15 minutes. Remove from heat, allow to cool, and it is ready to serve to the little ones.
Or if you are making this topping for a romantic evening, you can add the strawberry liqueur and cook for another 5-10 minutes to allow flavors to fully come together as the alcohol cooks off a bit. Remove from heat, allow to cool.
That’s it- now you are ready to serve your strawberry topping!
This strawberry topping is perfect on panna cotta, ice cream, brownies, cheesecake, or even pancakes if you are more of the breakfast-in-bed romantic. Make anyone of these desserts into a heart-shape and you have the ideal treat to top off a wonderfully romantic evening.
