How To Sleep Better
Sleep is important to how you feel and to your health. According to National Sleep Foundation, “If sleep is cut short, the body doesn’t have time to complete all of the phases needed for muscle repair, memory consolidation and release of hormones regulating growth and appetite.” Making sure you are getting enough sleep is a priority. Try a few of these tips for a better night’s rest.
Exercise.
Now, don’t balk at this. Exercise helps make sure your body is worn out, plus it is good for you too! Talk an evening walk or run, hit the gym, or do some at-home exercises. Exercise will help you get a better night’s rest.
Relax.
Try a nice warm bath with some soothing epsom salts to help you relax and unwind. A bath with CVS Epsom Salt works best for me because it helps me release tension in my shoulders and back. In a pinch for time or water, I do a hot epsom salt foot soak and it helps me relax too. You can even get fancy and add a few essential oils to the epsom salt for some enjoyable DIY easy bath salts.
Aromatherapy and/or Deep Breathing.
Use some calming essential oil blends and/ or make yourself a cup of chamomile tea and practice some deep breathing. Breathe in deeply and hold for a second, then exhale slowly. Practice slowing it down and releasing anxieties as you breathe out.
Bedtime Ritual.
Create a bedtime ritual to let your body recognize it is time for bed. Every night I get in my jammies, I brush my teeth, and I read one chapter of my book. Your ritual should NOT involve the TV or the computer or the cell phone as those emit blue light and can all get you wired up. Pick a calming ritual. You can find more bedtime ritual ideas here.
Melatonin.
If all else fails and you just need a good night’s rest, try CVS pharmacy Melatonin Sleep Chews. I like these because they are a drug-free, non-habit forming sleep aid that helps you get the rest you need. My husband uses this sleep solution when he is in a pinch and I use it to help adjust to new time zones when I travel.
I hope you find these tips to sleep better helpful. What do you do when you are having trouble sleeping? What usually works to get you to sleep better?

I’ve been trying aromatherapy lately and it seems to be helping. I’d like to try the melatonin chewa, though. Sometimes I just want to fall asleep as soon as I hit the sheets.
