I don’t do book reviews very often but something about this book caught my eye! Southern Fried Women just called to me. It must be all that growing up in Louisiana that I did because I wanted to read it and when I was reading it, I felt like Southern Fried Women wrapped its arms around me and pulled me in.
Southern Fried Women Review
Southern Fried Women is written by Pamela King Cable and it is a collection of short stories with a similar theme – the resilience of every woman. The book comes complete with old time photos that transport you to the times she describes. Before each short story, the author has included her commentary on the story and I really enjoyed this part! It puts you the spirit of the story and shares a peek at the writing process and in many cases it is almost as interesting to read as the story itself.
The stories are set all over the South and the characters are all very different but they all have an inner strength and grit. I really enjoyed reading this book! Filled with poignancy, honesty and bit of mystery each tale is expertly crafted, interesting, and thought-provoking.
I felt like I needed this book in my life right now to help me dig deep for my own grit and keep on trucking.
—WRITER’S DIGEST“SOUTHERN FRIED WOMEN features a selection of short stories with an extremely strong Southern voice. Author, Pamela King Cable, has a definitive style that is both appealing and a pleasure to read. She created characters that are compelling and skillfully drawn, making the reader want to learn more about them. Cable’s voice rings through, without being intrusive or overwhelming. Her characters speak naturally and seem true to their age, setting, time period and personality. The physical volume is very attractively packaged. The front cover photograph is very fun and certain to lure readers into picking up the book. The interior photographs were a lovely added touch as were the short story titles. That said Cable’s Southern voice and appealing writing style is sure to appeal to readers. ”
