I just love looking at beautiful interior home designs to gather ideas that I may some day want to implement for my own home decor. I follow a few of wonderful interior designers on Twitter and that is is how I got into discussion with Jessica Davis of JL Design, a Nashville interior design firm, and she graciously agreed to share some of her best spring interior design ideas on a budget with my readers! Davis and her team of interior designers create functional, interesting spaces with focus on Chic Contemporary and Retro Styles. The photos in the post are JL Design originals from photographer Leslee Mitchell. At the end of the post, I will also share some quick and easy spring home decor updates to finish off your updated spring look.
5 Fun Spring Interior Home Design Ideas
Spring is a great time to refresh your interior design! Here are some ideas to consider:
1. Live in Color
For inspiration look outside. As Spring flowers bloom around take note of nature’s palette and pull the color into your house. Whether primrose pink, lucky lilac, or youthful yellow; pick of few of your favorites and have fun inside! Swap out heavy curtains and dark, cozy fabrics for lighter, breezier options. Think light pastels, whites, and floral patterns. Bring the beauty of spring indoors with floral accents. This could be in the form of artwork, custom photo pillows, or even real flowers and plants.
2. Do-It Yourself
Paint is one of the most simple and cost effective ways to update your space for Spring. Pick a small area, like the back of a book shelf, an end table you scored at yard sale, or a powder bath. Look at one of those favorite colors you found outside and go a few shades deeper on the paint palette. Don’t be afraid to let the primrose pink become hot, the lilac to become deep or the yellow to become vibrant! Here’s another affordable DIY project using fabric paint, an amazing product available at most craft stores. Try finding a funky frame upholstered dining or side chair or a unique ottoman. Rather than stressing how to learn to sew, paint the existing fabric any color of the rainbow!
3. That’s A Wrap
Use existing hard back books or pick some up at Goodwill and cover them like you did in grade school. Go to a local craft store and select interesting scrap book/ craft paper or gift wrap and cover the books to display on bookshelves. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns like florals and geometrics as well as muted colors, with vibrant colors and even metallics. Mix it up and you’ll create an artistic effect that inspires. Use scrap or remnant fabrics from a local Fabric Store and use to recover existing old throw pillows. This can easily be done with fabric glue or tape.
4. Light It Up
Update your lighting to create a brighter, more inviting space. Consider adding more lamps or changing out lampshades for a lighter, airier look. Let in as much natural light as possible. Lighting can have a huge impact on a space. Take inventory of the ceiling lights and mix it up. If you have a small chandelier above your breakfast table and a large chandelier in your bedroom, try swapping them to play up scale. Maybe you paint or refinish one of those fixtures while it is down. Add some spring ambiance with string lights or fairy lights. These can be hung indoors or outdoors to create a warm, inviting glow.
5. Looks Can Be Deceiving
“Up-cycling” is a great way to update on a budget. Though it may look like trunk it could be used as a side table, ottoman or coffee table, or a bench, depending upon its size. Wood boxes and trunks can easily have an upholstered cushion or glass added to maximize its function. Small wood framed side chairs can also be used as side tables. Paint them a fun color, place a floor lamp close by, and allow the seat area to be a place to rest your coffee cup or book.
